uh, ok - so just as a thought experiment, and seperate from The Argument, what's better.
It's a simple question. I've read a million bellicose arguments from both sides - just plain and simple, why might I get a machine with osx, and not xp ?- less crashing, no virus', plug and play with most things, looks nicer, easier to use (expose, dashboard) there is moreavolve

three reasons:
time machine, exposé, spotlight.

In my country (as probably yours) we have basically two automobile manufacturers – Ford (Ford) and Holden (GM). Bogans (Rednecks) have more or less been conned into embracing one or the other as a kind of religion. I hate these fucktards. You see in driving their expensive, gas guzzling toys on their way to work, driving like they’re losing a race. They live their entire pathetic, flag-waving lives aligned with one monolithic multi-national manufacturing concern over another, practically identical monolithic multi-national manufacturing concern – and for what? Buggered if I know.
Anyway, I used to buy into the Mac vs. PC argument until I realised I was just as bad as these throw-backs. I use a Mac because it’s what I was put in front of when I started working in the design/print industry. I have used PCs for long periods as well.
Guess what? THEY ARE THE SAME FUCKING THING!!!!!

- Ahem. Just thought that STILL may have needed clearing up.MrOneHundred
- You, madam are heading for a smack bottom.MrOneHundred
- If I may be so bold as to suggest...MrOneHundred
- I was cheering you on :)Jaline
- well, they are not the same thing. they do the same thing. it is a subtle difference.cramdesign
- it would be like saying that red paint is the same as blue paint... they both cover the wall.cramdesign
- just pick the one you like and stop trying to make everyone eat the same flavor ice cream you do. you can't be "right" about preference.cramdesign
- Exactly! I, personally have much better things to worry about. Like Jaline misunderstanding me.MrOneHundred
- that is more interesting. though i like when people say windoze.cramdesign

Yep.
Thought so.
It's a screen with buttons one that you get to learn and assimilate into your creative process, sure.
When I'm in the zone, as I should be now instead of writing this, Im not concerned with, nor even notice - the regular behaviors of my 'action' buttons. Right click this, alt-ctrl-shift-S that, alt-tab, alt-tab, import as, ok - ok, enter enter enter...Im not thinking about that, Im thinking about the work - it's another level of abstraction above the machine, above the operating system. I've got various little addons and scripts dexpot, and little hacks for explorer. No icons on my desktop, everything just a couple of thoughtless clicks away.
I just want more ram.
And a faster processor. And a better graphics card, and a better sound card. But that's always going to be true.
Ironically, some xp hack Ive got replaces the start button with an apple.

Apple has become just another arrogant "son of a bitch" just like Microsoft, HP and the rest of the crew. With each new iMac (Glossy-Screen ONLY) release, iPhone (AT&T Service Only) release, etc... I am beginning to "think different" and considering switching platforms for the first time ever, since 1984 when I purchased my first Mac...
- and that's because you've actually used the new imac and new iphone and you're sooooooo disappointed that you've found better counterparts?lekke

if you prefer more freedom to choose cool (by that i mean ugly) cases, more opportunities to steal software and getting viruses, get a pc.
if you like a consistent experience, having that experience dictated to you and overpaying, get a mac.
either way it is just a preference. in the meantime, that stinker steve jobs better make a matte screen for the imac or a mini pro or i will continue to call him names and think i can do a better job.
what really matters is which ice cream flavor is better. well, it is chocolate. end of story. thanks.

Funny how this is turning into a mac vs pc argument.
PC users piss off!
:D

the only thing that kept apple alive was people who are willing to pay over the odds for some semi-decent industrial design.
- jfletcher0
No, the thing that kept Apple alive was MS :)

Mac or PC it depends on HOW you dress. If you wear acid washed Levis 501 with a business suit top and a WHITE shirt neatly tucked in to your pants, you are a MAC rebellll (with lots of money to spend on a computer). If you wear a full business suit, you are a Microsoft neeeerrddd corporate SELL OUT.

Seriously though does every mac thread have to become a mac vs pc debate? Its kinda lame guys.
We have a top to discuss here.
Talking of which, I totally went against everything I have been talking about and bought a new imac thismorning.
Risking the glare.
- dskz0
Im on LCD
- doesnotexist0
i love my glare

I just got my MacBook Pro back from Apple after I cracked the screen...and they gave me a glossy (not what I had when I sent it in). I have to say, though I would never have chosen a glossy screen, I dig it. Colors seem more crisp and I have yet to really experience substantial glare (maybe if I were outside?).
- Llyod0
I'd buy a macbook just to look cool in cafes but a pc to do real work
- duckofrubber0
This is why when I had the money a few years ago to buy a new mac, I bought a top-of-the-line G5 instead of waiting a minute for the Mac Pro. The G5 is a solid computer, really the pinnacle of the PPC era, and it will last me a few more years I am sure. But I'm just a lowly print designer, so what do I know?
- avolve0
Ok i received my new glossy imac this morning.
I'm happily impressed, the window in my office is behind the monitor and I have movable ceiling lights so the the glare really isn't a problem, and infact I actually like it - alot.
The only time it is worth mentioning is when looking at an all black page, the monitor is basically like a mirror but you only have to switch focus from your face to the page and you see everything fine, if anything it is alot crisper and pops out more.
Leopard is running fine and CS3 seems to be running perfectly too.
Admittedly the quality of the monitor is not as 'wow' as the old white imacs but to I wanted a new machine under warrenty so fuck it I think im going to stick with this.
I very rarely do print work so perfect colour matching isn't an issue and I have 19" dell hooked up to it for that anyway.
All in all a very happy, and a little surprised, apple customer.
I actually just bought it in haste thinking that I could try it out and return it if not happy, but all good.
Risked the glare!
