If you think about how much money U2 has made, you'll see that beyond the third stretch it's just design.

ugly!
Any new guitar designs I see are almost always ugly.

- it looks like it was modeled after those crappy Japanese guitars you find on eBay for $20locustsloth

I'm having a custom guitar built this year, hopefully. I know a person who does repair work and custom work that is stunning, one of the very few people in Chicago who actually do complete custom work.
It's going to be based on the Telecaster Thinline (below) with a black satin finish, a slight gloss over the top of it to add a bit of shine. Probably a maple neck.
The finish would be a black satin version of a strong wood grain like this:The fun starts with the pickups - going to have a humbucker in the neck position that will have a switch to go between humbucker or single coil. Will have the typical Tele bridge pickup and usual 3 way switch.
The back of the body will also be slightly tapered like the back of a Strat - I rarely play my Strat live but I prefer the way it feels against my body over the straight back of my Tele.
I don't know when I'll be starting this, cost is around $1600 but after months of chatting about it we've pretty much locked down exactly what we might do. I'll keep you posted if it happens!
- i've got an orig '73 tele deluxe - tapered back, maple neck natural finish - of course 2 humbuckersbulletfactory

That sounds sweet! I've been playing my tele a lot more lately, I don't know what it is.

The other guitarist in my band just got his Mexican tele back from some custom work, with some awesome additions.
1) Humbucker in the neck spot.
2) Danelectro lipstick pickup in the middle position3) normal tele bridge pickup
4) 5 way switch instead of usual 3 way
5) Bigsby tremeloTalk about a tone monster. He played it at a show we had a few weeks ago, it was just great.
- tele with a bigsby... pretty cool. not to mention the pickups and 5-wayOnesandZeros

I had this really long post typed up but then decided that nobody here wants to read that much, so I'll keep it short n sweet: Stratocaster shape (superstrats OK), 25.5" scale, no middle pickup. Anything else is either unique to your body or wildly un-ergonomic.
- But I do like a middle pickup, if it's wired correctly and you have a five way switch...TheBlueOne

ismith speaks the truth. i have an Explorer copy which, while it looks cool, is nearly impossible to play sitting down. Same thing goes for flying V's, reverse or not

- I have 2 Les Pauls, love them both!jfletcher
- i have 1- standard, goldtop - absolutely love it.bulletfactory
- are you in the Bay City Rollers?kelpie

the reverse flying V was created for obvious reasons. It's shaped like an arrow so one can play it and point it at groupies in the crowd while firing off a bad ass riff.

- And I'm a sucker for a maple fret board, they play and sound better to me, and they age really nice, visually.TheBlueOne
