You can't beat a strat for versatility, looks and durability.
Ask someone to draw an electric guitar and they'll draw a strat.Here's one of mine from behind

my sweet battered strat... hey so a while back when we were recording, the guitar tech was sorting out the intonation and he cut up a phone book and wedged it in the back of the bridge, i have no idea why but it sounded great. i wonder if i need to replace this? what was there before?
