buying a pc:
A) Dell Inspiron 530s
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8200 (6MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1333FSB)
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 256MBB) XPS 630
Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.40GHz,1066FSB)
Video Card: Dual 256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XTcomputer A is $800
computer B is $1800.What's the big difference?
Why would I get the more expensive one?P.S. I do flash/photoshop/after effects/cinema 4d/etc (all at the same time) for my job like most everyone else....
thanks!

p.s. the rest of the computer specs on both machines are identical.

I honestly don't think you'll notice $1000 worth of improvement to go with option B.

Are they from the same store? It's not unusual to find drastically different prices when you buy from different places. If they were from the same place I'd be surprised at the $1000 price difference.

Must be the Quad Core processor vs. the Duo Core

I don't like either, but depending on how much rendering you do in C4D you might want option B.

what don't you like about them?
so the quad core is faster? 2x faster?
- ukit0
Right, quad core is a new technology that has four cores (processors) instead of two, so theoretically it could be twice as powerful, although you will probably only notice when running high end apps. Since you're talking about doing 3D and video you'll probably notice a performance improvement in those environments, so if you plan to spend a lot of time doing that stuff it might be a good investment.

or build a PC yourself that is as powerful as B, but costs as much as A

people really customize Dells??

The only time you will every feel the difference with the quad core is if your using programs that support 4 cores. like Max or Maya. or yes. cinema 4d.
but its still insanely exspensive for a that kinda of upgrade. the duo to the quad price jump is no were near even 100 pounds. and the graphics cards in question are not with the price they justify in the upgrade. im thinking though that the xps is the gaming machine ? with the fancy case?

The XPS 630 is a gaming machine. Even then it's a little over kill for games.

a dell setup mine cost £600 with 21 inch widescreen goodness lol

don't forget the dual graphic card in B
Just comes down to money, if you got it, get something better, it'll last you longer.
As for home built, the warranty alone (upgrade to the Gold tech support, well worth it) is enough hassle not to ever go that route unless you enjoying building them (not for me).
Have you ever tried calling company A and explaining the problem, they tell you to call company B, which tells you it is company C's fault, and round and round.
One phone call (Gold Support is US operators, answer in minutes if there is a wait at all) and you can take care of every component.
