I asked him if he’d come up with a few options. And he said “No, I will solve your problem for you. .."

^ certainly no “emperor’s new clothes” I hate some of the stuff that Rand did, but this one is awesome. Basically the idea was that Jobs needed to differentiate NeXT from Apple and every other computer company, as it was going to be the next wave of computing. The NeXT machines were black cubes – more or less, but this was kept a secret from the public until the company launch. So the cube embodies the logo, the logo embodies the company name and reflects the physical appearance of the actual product, which (like a nice big moebius strip) embodies the logo.

yeah man, i like this guys work but the Next logo should be fora toy company and not a computer
- MrOneHundred0
That was the whole point. The logo is meant to also represent a child’s toy block, urging the customer to think of it as an educational toy, rather than a beige “Thinking Machine” FTW.

Jobs values design. Few CEOs do.

I like the type in that logo but not particularly the box part of it.

or: "blow and steve: two jobs that go great together."

Crap speech.

Somewhat of a pretentious and pompous description of Paul Rand's work, principals, and design philosophy. Almost like Steve Jobs was refering to himself but using Paul Rand's name instead. For someone who claimed that he had read several books on Paul Rand, he had nothing significant or insightful to add...
