^ certainly no “emperor’s new clothes” I hate some of the stuff that Rand did, but this one is awesome. Basically the idea was that Jobs needed to differentiate NeXT from Apple and every other computer company, as it was going to be the next wave of computing. The NeXT machines were black cubes – more or less, but this was kept a secret from the public until the company launch. So the cube embodies the logo, the logo embodies the company name and reflects the physical appearance of the actual product, which (like a nice big moebius strip) embodies the logo.
