And that's the point. The aim should be peace between two countries – forgetting the stupidity of the past, not glorifying it.

Your country embargoed Israel until the 60s and we did fine. The America "help" prevented peace between Egypt and Israel when both sides were prepared to go that way ten years and one awful war before it actually happened.
I actually think the American "help" is doing us more harm than good. America "helps" because of its interests and nothing else, as Kissinger put it "America does not have friends, it has interests".
America actually pours lots of money in to the armament of Saudia and Egypt (in a philosophy similar to that of Iranians, invest in guns, not people). And if it wasn't for the oil, America wouldn't give a shit about the region.
