Good attitude capn. It's a feature not a bug. Exploit that.

UV protector is a filter.
I doubt either of these sigmas will give you better results. I have the 17-70, it vignettes as well, but the extent depends on your luck (they have qc issues, every copy is different)

thats pricey
whats the advantage of that lens?
MrDany time you see a lens that has the same min aperture all the way through its zoom range you know you will be dealing with higher end optics.
ie. AF 17-55mm f/2.8G
instead of this
AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5

I hear nikon 18-135 is surprisingly good for the range
- danthon0
The main advantage is that you will not have to look at other glass in that focal range again. You get what you pay for.

just did some test shots
f5.8 / 8
with lens pulls out a littlefok its working BEAUTIFULLY

buy a better lens, i personally love the vignetting i get grom my lenses when i have the aperture at it's lowest, esp, the 50mm

mmm, love that.
also, if you are using a hood, might as well take it off, but that bowing in the corners is from poor glass. more elements/groups won't cause such abborations
- MrD0
vignetting
yes its cool at times but i need a flat shot
if i need it, i just photoshop it
than again, i guess i can photoshop it out
i want to learn more not trick it in PS
- MrD0
thats fixed lens no?
- version30
yes, a telephoto, the fixed length will allow for a low aperture for depth of field keeping your images from looking too flat (unless that's what you're after) and the lens length will alleviate any abberations from curvature or vignetting, the minimum focal length is 3 feet so it's well suited for indoor or outdoor use, i'm not sure of the size of the products/items you plan on shooting
- MrD0
right now i am shooting cup size products
but i want to take more photos still shots for fashion...
and actually looking for super flat lens
wait, what does flat mean in photography? for me it means there is no depth or dimension
- version30
you're right in your description of flat.
the higher your aperture, the greater the DoF. the more more light you have present the quicker your shutter speed will be. however if you are in a tripod environment with a stationary object, exposure lengths are trivial
i would say you are going to be hard pressed to find a lens that will satisfy both your need for small to medium product photography as well as fashion photography
using a general use lens will likely result in the vignetting and curvature you seem to want to avoid
- MrD0
indeed
give me lens reco for small product shot
and
fashion full length fashion shoot with tripod

i had written a nice lengthy reply complete with reasoning but now i'll just say...

vignetting usually occurs when:
fast ISO speeds are used in bright daylight.
small shutter speeds are used in bright light. ie: ƒ22.

If you want to shoot small products (cup sized like you said) I would go with a dedicated macro or at least a prime lens (fixed focal length).
Prime lenses always have better correction for barrel distortion and vignetting as they dont have to zoom so the manufacturers can just fix correct optics for that focal length.
I would go for something like the 60mm f2.8 macro.

It has a 1:1 magnification meaning you can focus on tiny objects like flys and see all the gross hairs on them and it will also double as a great portrait lens. It is a fast lens meaning its good in low light too.
Did I mention its so sharp it will poke your eyes out too? You will probably find yourself being taking out details on peoples faces as it is so sharp.
I use my 60mm f2.8 macro so much that it goes everywhere with my camera.
