canon 20d cleaning question

so as you can see by this photo:
my camera is ridiculously dirty. I carry it around with me all the time, and this is how all of the images have been coming out. spotted to hell! now don't get me wrong, there is always a time and place for that old movietime effect, but this ain't it...and all my photos are coming out this way (obviously)i cleaned the lens and that does nothing, so i'm assuming that all the dust and lint is on the sensor...which i really do not want to fuck up. i've had dozens of film cams which were always easy to clean, but now with the digital i'm scared to even tinker with it. i don't want to tear/scratch the sensor.
so my question to you all is: A) should i take it into a local camera shop and have them clean it?
B) try and clean it myself?
C) find a canon dealer and have them send it to canon?
i know it has a "self-cleaning" setting, but i have no idea what that means.
anyone got any info/advice/tips/hints for me?
thanks in advance all!

Hey These guys have everything you need.
It's pretty easy to clean yourself.
i'd reccomend the arctic butterfly\and the rectangular sensor swabs, make sure you follow directions on the butterfly though.

its not hard to do.
watch the demo.

With the way Photoshop cleans things up these days, I think it's a waste of effort to clean you sensor.
YMMV

hey lvl
if you cant that work, when you are in NY go to B&H, they do excellent job for you

Dude is that a pube on your sensor?
All the digi slr crew I know use the copperhill method. Its an alcohol based wet clean.
- lvl_130
haha! slappy i was just on the photo mill! specifically: http://www.photomill.com.au/inde…
so i'm reading through this right now. can you give me a brief on what exactly the copperhill method is?
dinky, yeah i was actually thinking of b+h if i couldn't get this issue solved before i'm out there! that place is nuts!
thanks again all! so many people helping out in such a small amount of time! love it.

You dont have to worry too much about cleaning the sensor yourself, it has a glass uv filter in front of the sensor which is quite robust. Don't over saturate the swabs and do a couple of tests on some clean glass like a window.
All ways use fresh pec pads and solution. Most good photoshops will have the right copperhill cleaning kit for your camera (there are diferent types of solution).
IQ will be much better aterwards.

honestly b&h have given me awesome advice about EVERYTHING, i learn so much from them.

national camera exchange could point you in a direction too.

Man I wish we had a photo store as big as b&h here, their range is awesome.
Detailed instructions with photos here for copperhill cleaning method.

Don't forget B&H is closed for Jewish Sabbath on Saturday. I'm going this Sunday for a new batter for my Canon 10D...and a cleaning — my photos all look like that too.
Photoshop does a great job retouching skies, but I don't want to have to do that for all the faces I shoot.

good input here for sure.
to be honest, i think MrD is totally right on with this- it pays *wonders* to have your body/sensor cleaned by a pro shop on some basis as they have procedures and look for dirt in places you probably could be scarred to touch, or just don't know to look for.
jeesus! how much did that sound like an ad for rub and tug??!?
FFS.

Thats what you need - Cheap and effective. Use The wet Swab first - gently on the sensor - then the dry one. Its a bit like using a mob on a floor then you dry it afterwards. However this company does ship to the states.
Hop that helps.

Oops - They dont ship to the States!

thanks all for the info!
i think i am going to bring it to get a pro clean. i'm out to nyc on friday so if i ordered the self clean stuff online it wouldn't get here in time :\
i'm not sure if the national camera shop will be able to do a cleaning in time though either...which sucks.
mrd do you know if b + h do a same day cleaning type of thing?
again thanks for all the info...it has been very helpful.

I didn't read each post to know if this was mentioned but you can send it into Canon for Free and they will clean it. Or if you have a local Canon center you can take it in and they will do it within an hour. I live in Southern California and there is one 15 minutes away (sorry if this isn't an option not trying to rub it into your faces). You can take it in at lunch and pick it up on your way back to work. If you send it in I think it takes a week and costs the postage but they do it for free and do not ask for any warranty information at all.

thanks for the info shane. i actually took my camera to the canon building you are talking about around 8 months ago :) unfortunatley, i'm no longer in socal and i don't have that luxury anymore :\
although, i haven't even thought to look into other canon locations...i guess i just figured there wasn't one in minneapolis or other surrounding areas. maybe i will get lucky...
