I didn't read each post to know if this was mentioned but you can send it into Canon for Free and they will clean it. Or if you have a local Canon center you can take it in and they will do it within an hour. I live in Southern California and there is one 15 minutes away (sorry if this isn't an option not trying to rub it into your faces). You can take it in at lunch and pick it up on your way back to work. If you send it in I think it takes a week and costs the postage but they do it for free and do not ask for any warranty information at all.
