Most respected stock-photo houses let you use their watermarked images for comps.
But still, no stock photo is worth that much even if you buy the rights for print and web.
Getty is trying to rip you off.
- MrD0
ladyboy,
do you know how much the photo cost for your usage?
they must be calculating for violation per yearly bases.
how long have you had it for?
they are not evil man, you are the who stole. they are just trying to get money for what they PROMISED their other client.
same as you selling a design adn reselling it to someone else. thats rights managed
- version30
does no one see that he is using the image as an advert for his own abilities by having it included in his body of work without paying for it?
he's guilty
- MrD0
daro.
i been quoted $5000-20000 at Getty for rights managed for 1 year usage

You could buy a white van for 7 grand!!
D'oh!

MrD.
I am a perfect customer for Getty - a lifelong consumer. I'm a freelance art director - I do web and commericals - have worked and continue to work at all the big agencies - DDB, RGA, BBDO. I buy getty photos on the agency dime all the time. Now I won't.
My personal site - where the incident took place is my smalltime portfolio site. Other than RGA, I made only 10k in freelance on the side last year
Someone give me some good stock agencies that arent' owned by getty. Photonica?
- version30
if the client didn't buy it, why was it being used on his site?
personally, i don't make it a habit to display work that hit the cutting room floor.
how many self respecting portfolios are populated with unapproved designs?
- Milan0
how do they know that you didn't buy the image?
either way, they can't do shit to you, just take the image down and you're set.

I'm still waiting to see some ID....

5000-20000 for a RM image for a year?!?!
Use another stock photo house or go directly to a photo studio, that's too damn expensive for a photo.
- Milan0
Demand 7 grand from them for taking screenshots of your site...

ladyboy
as much as i agree with you on your situation, i really cant help but to say, big stock agencies dont really care about individuals.
for them rather you find the image for big ad agencies or not you are not the one buying it.
for me, i get high res access to their library. because i work a big shop. and they do file check on me. "o remember that you image you downloaded? here is something you might like thats similar"
i mean its tough. i know you must feel that big company is coming down on you but i think you just need to suck this one up and think of it as a good lesson.
you know, just email them and say you didnt sell this to anyone etc, it was for comp. you can bargain down this $7000. anything in life negotiable.
they are human to, if you admit your mistakes, they will be more pron to work with you.
- MrD0
most of photographers charge $5000-10000 for usage per year.
and that would be for web.
expect double or triple usage for global print / broadcast
- OSFA0
MrD, did you get my email?
- MrD0
purpose of your portfolio is to get work.
thats a sales toolkit
its not for none profit. its intended for profit.
seriously, just call them and talk to them. THAN write a formal letter if they come out to play nice over the phone.
getting a lawyer will cost you more.

MrD, did you get my email?
