We need to work out how that algorithm works, trawl the Getty db for popular images, then re-render the goatses and tubgirls of this world so that they approximate the signature the algorithm looks for.
Spread the word, host a few hundred thousand across the internet - mentally scar Getty's footsoldiers from here 'til forever.

Appararantly picscout gets some of the cash take.
They send the "leads" to getty and then getty puts a human on the case. They sent me a long document with screen shots of my site and all.
Then they had one of their bitches prank call me acting like a potential client - got my actual name and all.

we got rumbled too.
my predecessor used a getty image, I had no idea...
got a very similar email £2700 or summat, same 15% deal...
I wrote back saying "whilst very similar our image is not your one, sorry."
they came back saying "oh yes it is, money please"
that was over a month ago now, not a peep though.

I'd be interested to see what it calls itself in your server logs.

(Jul 25 07, 06:40)Internet Explorer, Opera-cowardly-style? Probably reads images but takes screenshots as well (ie for Flash sites).

Jesus - I'm starting to feel pretty bad.
Am I the only fuck'n person in the US that this is happening to?
Lots of UK people have been hassled according to my searches.

(Jul 25 07, 06:49)Hold on a minute.
So their bot crawls, say 200.000 sites, hand the leads over to Getty legal. And then they call EVERY single lead up pretending to be a client, just to get a name so they can check their purchase log whether this image has been paid for??! I mean, they must get a ton of people who actually DID buy the photo.
That can't be right.

Hey Jox - It's true.
That's how they do it. Getty probably doesn't follow up every lead - but my personal site was made to look like a real "agency" (you know - multidiscplinary design firm dedicated to helping brands... bullshit) so they probably thought I might have some cash.
In the UK they've gone after mom and pops.
A women really did call from seatle and qualified the whole thing so beware!
Think about the money they're making on this. It's well worth their time

(Jul 25 07, 06:55)They got filthy rich selling images. They can get richer chasing down borrowers while spreading the message that borrowing does not pay.
I'd say yes, they're doing it.

How do these policies work with Getty? Can you only use a photo you purchased once, or are you free to do it whenver/how often you want?
If so, your best bet would be to find somebody who actually purchased that image you're being sued for, give him a few bucks to claim he created it for you...
- harlequino0
Is that "free" as in "liberate Ladyboy," or "free" as in "hey get some Ladyboy for free?"
- CFish0
I remember not so long ago someone else had the same issues with getty only I don't think they were demanding as much as 7k. It was a thread on this site! I have had a search but can't find anything. It was only a few months ago!
