I haven't visited yet cause the store is far away. I'm wondering if it's worth spending a thoulsand on a couch from them because:
The prices don't seem like that much of a saving from other stores.
All the Ikea furniture I've seen in lounges here seems to get used real fast and the cloth seems kind of cheap.
Are they built to last or is it cheap stuff?

I just bought a huge leather couch off of them.
Seems good.
...
I mean it looks good, I do not know if it is comfortable as anything is pretty much comfortable to me.
It has gotten mixed reviews from people, but not on its looks!
And that is what I am all about.
A huge facade.

Depends a bit on the product. The more expensive stuff is quite good most of the times.

I have quite a few things from ikea in our home. Everything that I've bought from them is still in great shape and holding up well.
On the other hand I dropped 2-3 times as much money on a few things from West Elm and almost every piece is chipping or warping to some degree. The coffee table I got from them, the finish is chipping and it's warped around the screws.
ikea stuff, though cheap is build like a brick shithouse.

i was going to buy this:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/s…but heard that the lather has a tendency to crack in not much more than 6 months :\
the couch looks great and when i sat in it is was comfortable...but 800+ to have something crack in 6 months?! fuck that.
and all of this is only by a sales girl i know that works there. so i guess she could only hear the bad things..

ikea is ok for me until i get to that last screw or bolt and that is the one that doesn't fit while the others work.
i think it's a matter of hit or miss with their products, you could get lucky and buy something that will last a long time. i have shelves that i got 10 years ago that still hold up.
how far are you from their store?

Pretty good quality with their products. Some of the wood is so nice that you can easily scratch it up and ruin it, but it adds to the effect. Anyway, I don't know much about furniture.
Basically, my family gets stuff from both Ikea and Leons and everything is doing well.

Der, I actually just bought that couch.
...
Wait, do I have to do something with leather so it does not crack?
I am not used to having nice things, if you should or could even consider that couch a nice thing.

their fabric is very shitty unless you spend high.
otherwise just buy a burlap sack and call it a night.
The furniture on the other hand is great for apartments, just if you need to break it down be extra careful, pressboard has a tendency to crack.

"lather"=leather. i can't type today!
and i'm going to have to disagree with kona to an extent. although the coffee tables i have bought there are solid...some of the other stuff not so much. seems like if you have to move the furniture to say a new apartment or something, and you have to take the stuff apart...good luck getting it back together in the same shape. it's pretty much throw away furniture if any disassembling is required.

lvl_13, did you read my post?
DID YOU NATHAN!?

don't get me wrong...that couch is dope! i think if you rub a bit of special oil on it every once in a while it will help it...check the "care" section on ikea, or go to a furniture store for some other products.don't just go rubbin' your kfc grease chicken finger hands on it though! :D

Ikea screws me again, haha!!
Yea, my bed (well to my genius I did get a king sized bed) from there looked great when I put it together in my old apartment.
The usual wear and tear had some of the corners a little ... well off.
But taking it apart ... all the king’s horses, and all the king’s men. :X

if you can afford a little bit more, this stuff is top-notch:

johndiggitydamn! blu dot finally reworked their site!! that old site was up forever!
they make great stuff. and a couple times a year they have a warehouse clear-out of stuff that is right down the block from my old place.

Damn. I haven't had to take any of my ikea stuff apart yet. The only one I think I'll have to take apart would be my desk. F-me if that thing won't go back together again.
All the other stuff of their is easily transportable.
Except for the ikea Plutonium drive Submarine I bought from there. No idea how I'm gonna get that out of my office.

re: that couch
I think it must be how they treat the leather, every time I snoop through the 'as is' section, they have one of those couches with a massive split in the middle of it.
my couch on the otherhand, looked cheapy when i got it, but after a few months of sitting on it, had a nice patina to it.

you aren't supposed to buy a $1,000 anything from IKEA

I also went to a lot of other furniture shoppes, and was couchless for like two months beforehand, haha.

I'm in Montreal Quebec.
I like couches that are sturdy with firm support. So yeah, I was just wondering if their couches got destroyed from 1000 people sitting on them or if they're just not sturdy.

Thanks for the warning about the leather. The couch I had my eye on was this one:
