Wow, this guy seems to have hit a nerve. Perhaps there is some confusion between art and finance.

i never understood why FWA gives mention in the news column to sites like http://ripleys.com and http://sbfilters.com and http://dakine.com just b/c they are 2A sites. all 3 of these sites are freaking crap. pure rehashed template crap and it still gets mentioned. why?

I think part of the problem is the fact that FWA has started charging to submit sites. Naturally that is going to lesson the pool of sites submitted, and I think that's why we're seeing so many corporate heavy hitters, instead of more creative personal, experimental portfolio sites. And some days, there just may not be the be the same quality site that was there the day before. I'm sure I reiterated the obvious as well as other people's arguements (forgive me). That doesn't change the fact that I still think FWA is among many great resources for cutting edge web design and creative talent. Just my 2 cents coming from a nobody.
(don't you just love the internet......where any old schmuck can rant his opinion to people far more talented and qualified !? :D )

Finally bcline is one who is talking some sense....
I do think that Flash shouldn't be used to just hoist in loads of video, the web should be a 'lean forward' medium, not a 'sit back'... If I want to do that I'd just watch television.
The user should be the conductor of a website, not click on a link and have a 10 second transition to another piece of video, which when they go back plays the transition backwards.
You can do pretty much anything in flash, but people are either to lazy, unskilled, unimagintive or put upon by their project manager / client etc.
Group94 are probably a fine example where they have the process right, as it doesn't just take a good flash designer to produce the stuff they do, they fully understand the medium.
You know a master of the medium when they do do something that is left of centre and make it look effortless, which does bring me back to the FWA, in that I agree some of the stuff of there is marketing rather than inspiration. But could you find a site every day that blew the previous day away? Can you think of more than half a dozen sites, that you really really like?
Rob at FWA does a sterling job, so don't just slag him off in that way, unless you understand the processes he has to go through to get that site to you everyday. Yes, that site that doesn't cost you any money.

Serios man, I don't know what you're talking about. Please let's reel this back in and discuss the original topic. Time to get serious and buckle down.
