i agree with that, cram. i agree with that very strongly.
the AVERAGE person fucking hates flash sites. ask ANY SINGLE gamer -- they never, ever, use a company's official game website to get any information about the game -- ebcause it will be full of load times and useless shit that says absolutely nothng worthwhile. this goes for normal people in any other sort of area.
the only people i can possibly imagine this shit appealing to is huge execs at companys sitting on hundreds of thousands, and they feel if it costs that much to have a huge clunky overcommercialized wreck of a flash site, then it must be worth it.

I think we all need vertical scrolling, HTML portfolio sites. Ugly is the "IN" thing these days. Get with the program kids. Why do you think pink shirts and fauxhawks are in.

meh... if ya'll are lookin' for usability... run over to zeldman's house for a game of Twister...
... thefwa sites are 'online interactive commercials' - they're captivating like a cg-packed film.
'ANY SINGLE gamer... never ever!!'...
waaaaaaaaaaah!!
Game sites are marketing pieces you TWIT!!! they're to get you to buy the game... like a tv commercial... but interactive...
... if you're looking for hints and tips... hit up the game forums for that shit... 'EVERYONE KNOWS THAT!'
... you're looking for the wrong thing from thefwa in my opinion.

design should give form to content and add meaning to information. i don't necessarily dislike flash but does it always have to have video just because it can? flash has its place, video has its place. any webmonkey can put a video on a site but let's see some good old 2d design.
it is much more common to find elegant work in print and, hard to believe, they still don't have video. (he he)

paul,
coach is the "natural" body building web designer.looks juiced to me though. his designs i mean...they look JUICED.

i think that ponyboy makes a good point, though he should relax a bit. lately, most sites on thefwa are marketing focused sites. this is a point i was trying to get at earlier. but there is the problem. i am a designer and interested in design and not so much in marketing. to most of the outside world that is splitting hairs but to me it is a broad difference of focus.

i fucking hate the fwa and all that it stands for.
having that said i will never get an award for the shit i make.
regardless, i still hate the flash-heavy production-heavy blahblah shit on it.
- PonyBoy0
hahaha..

sorry... the bong is iced and waiting... and I keep neglecting her.

"Game sites are marketing pieces you TWIT!!! they're to get you to buy the game... like a tv commercial... but interactive...

no, you stupid bitch. most normal people DONT.. theyll instinctively check the official page, then bitch when they have to wait 30 minutes for a flash animation to load which is just some huge longwinded expose into some virtual world that has nothing to do with the game itself.
in this day and age, the best place to find any information on a game, or movie, or anything "commercial" is to goto review sites or other tech portals which provide INFORMATION in clear well designed layouts..
- PonyBoy0
qruise, ease up on the exaggeration, sweety... if you noticed I put 'EVERYONE KNOWS THAT' in quotes for you...
... I left out the // that belonged in front of it.
As for waiting '30 minutes' for the flash... once again... ease up on the exaggeration.
TWIT!!

but thats not even my point. the point is that FWA is saturated with that kind of work, and i think its silly and completely seling-out when every interviewy says "every day i check FWA for the best inspiration around!".. bs. none of its inspired, its just the result of having the manpower of 15 developers cramming as much shit in as they can to up the price.
and like i said, there are definately exceptions IMO, occasionally a portfolio site is really well done on FWA, but theyre far and few between.
FSTAR has some more going for it,

just learn how to play the games yourselves pansies - "boo hoo i need game hints from a marketing web site..."
"Hey qruise, its mom - dinner's ready!"
- PonyBoy0
funny... the first few links i clicked on Fstar took at least 3 times as long to load as some of the flash over on theFwa...
... I see SUPER HEAVY flash over there too... ?
- cram0
yea, fstar is mostly (all?) flash sites. i pointed out as a better but similar alternative to fwa.
- PonyBoy0
fstar... love what I'm seeing... I'm inspired!
... just... it's bulky flash too - ?
