You're right, I have no love for "dad" bikes.
It looks like something a super lawyer by day, super golfer by weekend and all around super dad might ride. Snoozer.

it's funny because all of my h-d friends could care less what you ride as long as you ride, but my sport bike friends are really caught up in it all.
then again, i'd like to think i'm a super dad, so maybe that's it.

Don't get me wrong, everyone who rides is on the same team. It's just that everyone who saw an episode of american chopper seems to think a harley davidson is the only bike on the planet.
I ride a cruiser, a bmw cruiser. My bike will out perform a HD in every way, and will last 10x as long. Its not that I hate HD's, it's just that there are better built bikes out there.
but to each his own, and if you get your softtail, I'd be happy to ride with you any day. cheers.

i just think the anti-hd crew is as asinine as the hd-only crew.

blaw "in the bay area its the other way around, hd guys hate us for whatever reason, probably for the squids that (sometimes) make us look bad. that (sometimes) is only when their not riding with us :P

"thats my last bike. no more. id advise you get a cruiser jevad, sports bikes are very tempting to twist on the speed."
gotta respect the trottle on those R1's thats for sure.

As far as the HD's being Dad bikes, I kinda agree. It's a certain strain of person that likes H-D's. MY Dad however rides a 150hp CBR929RR (upgraded cams and full exhaust). The thing is mental. I got it on the freeway and rolled on the throttle and hit 113 before you could spell "brakes".
I like the modern cafe racers as well. The Thruxton's and Ducati's Sport1000. Both really nice bikes. And I rode a Monster S2R1000 and I think that may very well be my next bike. Unless I ride the 1050 Speed Triple and absolutely love that.

get one of these jevad (or similar in the US)

The speed III is ridiculous! I took one out from the local triumph dealership the other day and fell in love.
Jevad - if you haven't ridden in awhile, get something a bit smaller and older, at least for the first year of regular riding. An R1/R6/GSXR etc will have you on your ass or in traction before you knew what hit you.
As for the bike debate, if I had my way, I would have a garage full of bikes. Super Sport bikes, Super Cross bikes, touring bikes, cruisers and on and on. From all the manufacturers.
I happen to prefer Euro bikes (hence my ducati and bmw) but I have love for every bike and consider every rider my teammate against the 4 wheeled, steel cage driving army.
Anyone in LA that wants to ride? God I can't wait for work to end so I can fly by all the traffic on the 405...

you're in colorado right?
don't get a duc or a triumph. those altitudes will wreak havoc on the valves.and honestly, i drove through colorado last summer and i don't think i could say that a sportbike would be a good choice either. sure you could really cut those curves around the rocks, but sport bikes are hard on your wrists and you'll tire easily.
if you haven't ridden in a while, get a cheaper 1990s japanese bike and then buy something else in two years when you really know what you want.
i'm driving a bmw r1100 right now and it works great for me, but that's just me. see if you can ride some friends' bikes first, or go to a shop and ride what you can, preferably not new, if you want to get a feel for different bikes.
