Be a man and ride the Dinkster 6900cc.

i love it when the weather breaks. all winter everyone's cooped up. even on the occasional warm winter day there's too much shale on the roads to safely go out.
for the past week, motorcycles everywhere. every errand occuring on two wheels. quite nice.

how's that for a finger towards the chrome addicts?
i love the clutch and the fact that you'd never have to wash it.

good point. for that kind of cash you could buy two shiny ones and still have money left over to pay the kid next door to keep them clean for you.

buy two, sand blast one, done

Sticking with the theme of "nuthi' fancy" I submit my baby. A tweaked 1989 Kawasaki EX 500.
2:1 Muzzy Exhaust
Stage one Jet kit
KN filter pods (all of that silly emissions stuff has been removed)
Fresh coat of highway yellow
Bought her for 2k US
Put 35k miles on herhere is a shot of her after a head on collision in DC a few years ago.
Some cracker came up the wrong way on a one way street with me and my girl riding two up.(note the sad turn signal).
BTW just pulled her out after a long winters rest and she fired right up and we went for a ride on Saturday.

nothing like the forced retirement of winter to make you really appreciate that first spring ride.
as far as bike-car wrecks go, you made out okay, didn't you? good deal. i hate to see anyone forced into that challenge.

Thanks Brian, Nothin but a few scratches... when it was inevitable that the car wasn't gonna stop, I just gave the girl the universal tap on the leg -indication that us and the bike were about to part ways...layed it down, we rolled to the curb and cracker-man ended up with my bike jammed under his front end. Luckily it was Rolling Thunder weekend in DC and about 50 bikers in full colors came out of the woodwork...crackerman locked himself in his car ... we pulled out the bike and she fired right up. Insurance was swapped and he paid for repars ... the photo shown was actually taken by a lovely biker couple from NY who later sent the pics for the insurance..."You want me to hit him for ya honey" was the last thing I heard from one of the biker gals to my wife as we rode away...still feel the love of that comment to this day...
peace all, and remember ... Loud Pipes Save Lives.

crazy.
that's a funny mental picture of the dude locking himself away for the crowd of bikers.
glad it worked out well. i'd have had to spend the next two hours standing around waiting for my nerves to settle.
i do follow the adage "loud pipes save lives". an ongoing joke around here occurs when i roar up in front of the house and my wife runs out to send me on an errand before i park the bike. i ask, "how did you know i was home?" :D
in fact, i'm ordering new baffles that sound like open pipes without the drop in power due to the loss of back-pressure. good thing my neighbors actually like me.

Before you go buying a british bike... Last year I was going to get a Triumph Thruxton until I watched a series called Greatest Ever Motorcycles.
I found a good mechanic and a guy that had a 72 CB750 under a tarp in his garage. I paid $1000 for the bike and $3000 for a basic restoration. Alternately you can probably find one in ready to go condition.
They were over engineered for the time and you can get about 100k out of the engine before you have to rebuild it. It's easy to find them with less than 30k on them.
They're super easy to turn into cafe racers.
The best ones are from 69-76.
