Don't get me wrong - I think it's pretty neat, especially in this day and age...but also fairly unrealistic...

Oh I would agree about the elaborate ceremony part. Creepy indeed. I should have made it clear that the only thing I endorse is abstaining from premarital sex and for young women and for their fathers to build strong father-daughter relationships. Young women need to know that the imagery and value system that this world throws at them is a lie. They need to know that they are loved unconditionally and know where their identity is.

having a ceremony and signing a petition isn't really going to do anything - look at the divorce rate in the u.s. - but at least dad's are tearing themselves away from their jobs/the golf course/etc. to take an interest in their daughters. that's a good thing in my book.

This is about men's control over women. Real relationships come from hard work, respect, and guidance, not some ritualisitc purity ball.
I cannot wait until this primitive medeival nonsense goes the way of the dinosaurs.
