Also, these topics aren't too common on NT these days.
flagellum
(Feb 28 07, 11:56)cause arguments about religion never end up anywhere except "we'll agree to disagree"

gramme people do nice things everyday and it has nothing to do with god, you understand that right?
mrdobolina
(Feb 28 07, 11:55)and that's what God promotes in beleivers.

believers like pat robertson?
seriously all christians should fight these evil bastards instead of wasting their time trying to convert people.

You know I can chat theological all day. I know it seems on the internets it's real easy as to come across snarky and such, but in regards to spiritual matters I am really quite respectful, but it's just too easy to get Flagellums goat and I admit I have fun with it. I don't take anything said on here all that seriously and just goof off..
That said, with regards to the christian faith I found the only way that it resonated with my was to actually take Jesus statements in the NT seriously and literal - that the Kingdon of God was, in fact HERE and NOW. That in fact, there is no Heaven to get to, but rathe rHeaven is right here and now and is a matter of flipping the script about thinking what salvation is really about. That was mad deep for me.
Unfortunately such a view is in fact heretical in christian tradition (You can start with the Cathars in medieval France and go through the centuries all those burned at stake over just such an interpretation)..so this whole saving my soul to go to some "heaven" after I die is just bobcockery to me...and I find no spiritual meat to chew on in modern american christianity either. It's lightweight stuff to me.

and to be honest I do not doubt anyone here's faith for a second. I know tons of religious people that are cool. I also know tons of religious people that think they are better than people who do not have faith. I see that in you guys from time to time and it kinda pisses me off. especially flagellum.

Christians are not instructed to "fight" Pat Robertson. Try to think outside the realm of political agendas for a moment. They are instructed to imitate Christ and help people with spiritual and physical needs and to reason with those who are skeptical about the faith.
- mrdobolina0
why am I skeptical about the faith, flagellum? because of evil fuckers like robertson... go flip his table over already.
- M0NEYCIDE0
be peaceful and you'll find faith...jesus and buddha unite

BlueOne: Christ taught that the Kingdom of Heaven had arrived with his advent. And that it resides in the hearts of those who place their faith in him. But he also taught that there was a physical and future aspect to the Kingdom too - the earth restored to it's pre-Fall state.

Can we all agree to disgree..and stone all the lawyers?
- BonSeff0
don't you realize how rediculous it is to 'reason' with someone about faith! There is no reasoning faith, that is what makes it faith!!!
- M0NEYCIDE0
bonseff's name stands for bs
- ender790
blueone: that's not to say that heaven is not an actual place itself, and jesus refers to it as such.
and so you know, i do appreciate your well thought out responses to my questions.
i haven't given up on the intelligent exchange of ideas/beliefs/etc. in the pvn.
- BonSeff0
you should pray for better material
or mix in a clown horn to help that joke along
- Mimio0
Bonseff, what we're really talking about is when people's faith intersects with reality. That's the problem.

(Feb 28 07, 12:05)I fully agree with you on that one. Many people who claim to be Christians hold to a watered-down, jingoist, self-serving, fat-assed variety that makes me want to vomit. I'd rather those people left the church altogether than stay and pander their televangelistic, soft-headed bullshit to me.
There is still a bit of the old-school variety around, it's just a lot harder to find. People like my father, who sacrifices his well being for the sake of the church he pastors every day, and Saul Cruz, whom I mentioned above.
- BonSeff0
and i would argue faith and reality are 100% subjective to each individual

(Feb 28 07, 12:06)dobs, have I ever come across as condescending to you? I sincerely don't believe myself to be better than you, or anyone else for that matter.
I apologize if I have ever spoken down to you.
- gramme0
If reality is subjective, then kill me now. No way in hell do I want to live in a world of my own contrivance, where there is no truth but that which matters to me.
