Jesus I need to read my posts before I broadcast them.
Let me clarify.
Took a job when I first moved here, even though I didn't think I would like it, because it paid more money and gave more holiday. It was also a WAY longer commute to the other places I could have worked at. But I thought I could make it work - having a few thousand extra dollars completely clouded my judgement.
I quit after a year, to work at a place downtown that was much smaller in size and stature, and I have never been happier. Took a pay cut to do it.
My point is - there is a lot to be said for not just taking a job because it offers you more money. If you are comfortable and able to pay the bills...sure hey wouldn't some more expendable cash be awesome? But you need to look at all aspects of the two jobs.
No point taking more money at a new job if you are going to fucking hate being there day in and day out. And you *will* know if that is going to be the case.

When I first moved here I took a job that offered me more money and more holiday, and I was never more miserable that when I was working there.
Now, I've been at this company for 2 years, which is a year longer than I have been at any company, and even if I got offered $10K more to work somewhere else with a blistering client list, I would say no thanks right there and then.
The environment I work in and the people I work with mean more to me than more money and potentially better clients.

i would never ask for a raise unless i already had another offer at some other place to work for the higher salary.
that's just how it is.

"sorry it took so long to respond. Yes, the place I work at is comfortable. I like it. But I have a wife and kid that I have to look after, so $ is important, specially since we want to buy a house. I am confident that my boss will offer to match it, (crossing fingers) but if not, I will have to think haaard about this."

for those of you who care, my dilemma had a happy ending. (no, not that type of happy ending...)
I guess my boss likes me after all, he matched the other offer, without me even mentioning it.yeay!!!

Lift up your skirt, grab your balls and go ask for a payrise!

Change is good. How long have you been at the current place?
I've got a wife and young daughter myself, so I can relate to that part of the decision making process. And what if your current boss matches the offer? Does the current place keep you happy creatively? How's it going to play into your career path if you stick around for another couple of years?
Stuff to think about, and all in all, it's a good problem to have.

follow your gut and go where you feel there is the most potential, money should be secondary.

make sure you're comparing quality or work and life, not just money.

i third jevad. i once moved from a decent job to one which i thought might be better w/50% more pay, but it turned into a nightmare and it took me almost a year to recover from it and find something i liked again.

this EXACT thing happened to me a bit ago. My previous employer (as an intern) met with me and offered 10k more. I thought about it long and hard. Then I straight up told my boss what the situation was. I told her to match the offer, and I would stay. She respected me for being an honest employee she could trust and matched the offer.
I left the prospective employer with an open mind of the future...

i know what u mean spl, I was going to ask for a raise before the end of the month. And no, I didn't apply to this job, I did freelance for them, and they liked me and now they offered me a full time job.
See I am not that bad...
OSFA
(Jan 30 07, 13:20)oh i see :)
very sweet then.still sounds like your current place is nicer..
if your boss is ok with you doing freelance on the side i'd explain the situation and say i want to stay but $$$ make a difference etc.
really depends on what you need the most, change or money (or both).

take the new job straight up. it's good to be uncomfortable some times.
