To blame the mismanaged war in Iraq on the soldiers is just plain dumb. Too few were sent over to begin with, and no plan to end the war was ever put in place.
I would imagine the higher ups thought this war would be like Iraq circa 1992 and end in 3 days. Guerilla warfare takes guerilla tactics... not red tape and some asshat thousands of miles away behind a desk in Washington calling the shots.
No one can honestly sit here and say Iraq would be better off with Sadaam still in power. No one. We just needed a better plan of attack and fall-back to make it all come together.

I do design as a hobby and some extra freelance cash for small companies and hang out here to get better at it. My degree was in political science and revolutionary conflicts.
I bow to your guys knowledge about design, and want to learn from you guys, but in this I know what I'm talking about. Your the one who seems to be getting his facts from the newspapers.

For iraq to be cleaned up, the people need to actually want what the US/World is trying to give them, Freedom or whatever the US is trying to sell why we are there (thats always a question it seems). The people have no unity, they just allow shit to happen and blame the US military for the problems. If they can't even provide a non corrupt police in an effort to protect the citizens. what's supposed to happen. Society has to want peace and respect the laws for everything to work. If everyone in any country started doing whatever they wanted, fighting everyone that tried to stop them. No military could stop it. they can't be everywhere all the time. That is where they need to take some responsability.
Think about it. If your in your village and a bunch of dudes come in and start recking havic, do you just sit there, or do you make the call to someone (military) to come and clean it up? They just sit there and basically support it (for fear of death i'm guessing). Then bad guys control the town with fear. Then the military needs to go in with force and retake the town. I personally blaim the people of iraq. They are the eyes and ears of a peaceful place.

this conflict was doomed from the start. we weren't there to liberate the iraqi people. we are there because saddam had drone planes that were going to spray anthrax using crop dusters over the midwest of the united states, remember? When they didn't find these weapons, the face of the conflict changed from pre-emptive strike because of an imminent threat to an occupation. foreign fighters flooded into the country and they look just like everyone else in the country. this makes it incredibly difficult to fight.

(Jul 20 06, 06:35)That's cool. I haven't been in a fight in a while, and I must say, the punching bag I hit 3x a week and boxing training I've been utilizing for a few years are just not cutting it in terms of actually punching a human and turning their face into groundbeef.
Sounds fun. Behind Grounds-keeper Willies shed?

That's nice TheBlueOne. But you still didn't reply to my question.
If you are well read, and well studied, which I dont doubt you are, why would you quote WP as a reliable source of information?
You can have no idea who wrote that stuff.

Fair enough moth. I was just introducing a concept to the discussion, that being the concept of fourth generational warfare. Wikipedia has a decent definition of it, in line with contemporary scholarship on the subject. Figured it would be the easiest link. I am on your side with the fallibility of information at wikipedia in general.Peace....

The US really needs to "Daisy-Cutter" a suspected terrorist harboring city every time a car bomb goes off and kills someone.
Kinda like what my dad did back when I was in middle school. He caught me smoking so he made me smoke ever cigarette from the pack in one sitting. I was sick for hours. Make the punishment for the crime so horrible that no one wants to commit the crime.
