anything? if you aren't happy working where you are then give it a shot elsewhere - if you still not happy just come back to blighty in 6-12 months! The change might be the kick you need. I aim to move soon - unsure where, or how, or how the career will evolve from that - either into a studio or continue freelancing or even find a studio space and push more on that. Design is sucking for me at themoment but I do feel it is the working from home in a town that pisses me off.
bad karma and that! make your own opportunity and if it still sucks then sit down and rethink it all.

Well it's all sorted anyway, I fly out on 12th September. Return flight's booked for 8th December unless I decide to head for the hills. I need to build up courage to tell my boss, maybe even see if he'll keep the job open if I decide to come back.

Sorry Stimuli, how old are you? I'd welcome a 3 month trip – why not seeit as 'travelling' rather than a depressing end to a bad situation. Take a laptop and just see what happens. and the worst WORST thing that can happen is that you might have to go back and stay wioth your parennts for a month or two.
And you never NEVER know what might happen.

i have to say i think you need a breath of fresh air. You sound stuck and when you sound stuck you feel stuck.
How you feel now is eminating to all around you which im sure makes you feel even worse.
Ever read the artical doChange. It was something they gave us at uni, small stuff even sleeping the other way one night can give you just the fresh air you need.
Come on pull your socks up your a designer, you must have loved it at some point. Do you not think you could be a studio manager or Account Manager, or even just stick vinal to cars for a living.
