i dont think i could ever go back to web....especially in a small-ish city
agentfour
(Jun 26 06, 06:30)Why do you say that? Because the projects in a smaller city are less interesting? Or the clients are yokels?

if you move for your girlfriend it's the wrong reason

(Jun 26 06, 09:01)not necessarily, but it's pretty hard to get a working visa here.

if you change continents for a girl, you are embarking on a lifetime of trying to make this woman happy.
your life will be secondary in your own eyes
love does not always mean the man must sacrifice

what?
- 5timuli0
I would be moving for her mainly. But then I'd still need a job. I'd happily bum around unemployed but you can only do that for so long.

:(
is she here in the US? Marry her to get around the visa thing.
if you both are in another country trying to enter the US on your effort/dollar, i repeat my previous statements in all caps
- 5timuli0
She's staying with me at the moment (for 3 months). We've been trying to work out a way we can be together which included her trying to go to school or get a job here but it's just easier for me to go over there.
But main worry is my career, I've been unhappy since long before I met her but have been sticking it out in the hope it will improve. It hasn't and I don't really want to take this feeling across to the US.

The K1 fiancee visa would be the easiest way but it's a big step so early in out relationship (we've only been 'together' 3 months). It might be an option if all else fails but I don't really want to marry someone for that reason.

(Jun 26 06, 09:09)that's surprisingly negative and pessimistic there, v4. would never have expected that from yourself ;)
5timmers - go on and get across there, everything about your post is screaming that you should do this. You get a big change, you get to be with your girly, and you'll get a big boost just from a change in location, believe me.
Be positive about it, sounds like it could be a great craic, good luck to you big chap :)

i'm more of a realist than a romantic is all
i was just thinking, i should add "what i think" to the end of all my posts
people seem to get defensive
- Jaline0
nah, it's just that you seem very negative, Justin, as kelpie said. And that stuff about his life being secondary just isn't true all the time. But yeah, everyone can have an opinion.
5, I think you should do it because it seems like you need a change right now.
- kelpie0
oh cheer up v4! ;D

(Jun 26 06, 09:14)those could be my exact words not too long ago 5timuli, both paragraphs. I think the change of scenery might blow a lot of your work cobwebs away. I'm only on stage 1 of 'follow the burd across the wurld' but just being away from Glasgow is making me appreciate things in my job that I had hitherto thought would always make my toes curl.
But anyway, good luck, whatever you decide, your a top chap :D

ahhh, pashaw 5, america is a great country, founded on the backs of slaves and financed almost entirely on the exporting of janga (that's no joke). we love people with accents, esp. in indianna. so come on down and bring your funny hat, the toothless guy at the end of the bar just got his disability check and is buying everyone in the bar a round... besides, what have you got to lose?

A change can be a good thing. I moved down to London from Edinburgh on the spur of the moment and for the most part it was a great idea. Fresh start and all that.
However, if you're not sure what you're running away from you might not solve any problems and find yourself even more isolated.
Do some work for yourself, make some posters, paint something. Try and remind yourself of what it is you enjoyed about design in the first place.
At the end of the day, unless you are really, really lucky, client work is always going to be a cunt, one way or another. Just try and find a balance.
Good luck.

def not a joke, it's incorrect
america's early drug profits were from cutter ships delivering opium to the orient
