Which is bad really seeing as I've been doing it (including college) since 1998. Now I'm trapped and there's no way out.
My new gf has asked me to go and live in the US and I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to. That means I need a job in a specialist field so I can get a temp working visa. I have a place to live there and access to a car, no debts and a big whack of US dollars to go over with.
But I still have to work in design. Which sucks arse big time.

Why don't you teach English to Americans? Their spelling is all over the place!

Get a job at Home Depot.

on another note, what is it about being a designer that you hate?

Your new gf made you go for a walk instead of getting pished with strangers from the internet. Don't do anything she asks you.

Not entirely sure why but I find it increasingly difficult to design anything. Zero inspiration, zero enthusiasm, zero effort on my behalf.
It may just be that I'm sick of Edinburgh and have been for years. The move might help. Think I'd be happier freelancing if I didn't have to deal with the money side of things. Not sure if you're allowed to on a temp working visa though.

I miss gettin pished with interweb geeks. I've not fallen asleep on the couch for about a month :/
Indianapolis is the city of choice, I love it. Like a big garden with plenty of beer taps.

Think about how you can apply your print & web knoweledge to your own business. You're in a strange position - you're quite specialised, but what you're specialised in makes it much easier for you to produce a 'product' out of nigh-on anything.
Even if it's just the equivalent of a 'mom and pop' enterprise, you can use your creativity to leverage yourself above the rest.
Don't get too down-hearted, man - you're actually in quite an enviable position!

Besides, 'Brit in USA = Made', from what I hear (though, don't go all Jevad and Nouveau Yankee on us)

Get away from the internet for a bit and im sure you will find inspiration again.

your new gf asked you? hmmm, how long you guys been dating for?
if you hate what you do now and move to the states, you'll probably hate even more.

Go for it !!!
