clients that ask why their site is so narrow (760-755)
Their stats show that a large amount of their users use 800x600 resolution.
They want me to increase the width of their site so that it looks good on their monitor, fuck the customers.

I had a client ask that I disable their "clicking sound" on Internet Explorer.
I'm sitting there thinking, "Do you even use the web at all?...Don't other sites have the same effect for you?"

"Yeah, and while you're at it, if you could just go ahead and grab a can of roach spray and take care of those roaches for us, that'd be great...K?"

I love it when clients give you photos for print at a 72DPI and RGB. When you asked for 300dpi and cmyk

i feel you man...
i had a client recently that submitted a deposit to me for work to be done...
i told him 3 weeks to get him his first set of deliverables..
he called me a week later saying he was putting a stop payment to the check he wrote me because he felt i was taking too long, even though i quoted him 3 weeks and he agreed to it...
needless to say I refuse to talk or do work with him anymore

i don't know why you are complaining
i put it just like this...
if you hand me a piece of paper or send me a scan you expect me to retype myself, just know you are paying $50/HR for me to do this ok?
good.
hourly wages are the same no matter what you do, i'd sooner retype a word doc than write javascript anyday

but after reading the thread through i sympathize with 85% of all when building anisecafe.com i leterally built two sites during development what the client asked for and what we thought was cool
the colors were ugly the type sucked and there were worthless ornamentations (requested by client) all over it
so they were ready to see the final (of what they wanted - ugly) I pushed it live and they were very unhappy with what they asked for stating they had made poor judgement
they asked us to fix it no matter what it took and they were willing to pay for the extra time
so i deleted theirs and uploaded mine... you've never seen a happier client

Here's some quote for you...
'I've got a nephew that does web design, maybe he can...'
'I've got a friend the likes photography, maybe she can...'
'How come the site looks smaller on my wife's iBook?'
'What does dippy eye mean?'
'Can you email us the images from our website, we'd like to use them on our exhibition stand.'
'I like the design, but I'm not sure about using latin. Can we use our own text?'
'I'd like an identity and website for less than £500.'

One of my only REAL beefs with clients is that many, if not most of them, are more concerned with their own personal preferences than those of their target audience.
And that's a whole 'nuther issue...we should be concerned with communicating to individuals, not branding for the masses...that has been proven to not work since it makes people feel like cattle.

what happens when the client gets what they want instead of what they need
disclaimer:
I am no longer responsible for this site, last I saw it was white not black. with blue and black highlights, not orange and bluethere is an intro somewhere too with planes flying in 3d

...no I'm sorry, its a 10mm x 10mm advert I've only just fitted all the copy in at 1point. I'm afraid there's no room for those 8 pictures.
Kind regards...
