dont waste your time with the lens that they package it with. just buy the body and then get a nicer lens

nice photos nospacebar. what flash do you use?
i need to get a new one (since that little spot flash on the camera is terrible) but just don't know if i can shell out $450!

I have a 20D and whole bunch of canon L lenses. I'm currently saving up for EOS-1D Mark II N coz i'm trying to get into wildlife and sports photography.

I've got one of these... never get time to use it enough though...

For the longest time, Nikon paired with Sony for it's sensor technology. That always turned me off—felt like Nikon wasn't stepping up to the plate like Canon.
Canon has been setting the benchmark for Digital SLR technology with the development of their DIGIC II processor and the refinement of a CMOS sensor.
I still not convinced that Canon's Processor+Sensor combination has been matched.
With that said, if you're going to look long and hard at Nikon, it better be the D200. Nikon has flexed it's muscles (not that the D70 is terrible, but it's my opinion is it's not really on a par with the 20D.)
I say look at the 20D. Forget the 30D. The advancements/improvements/update... (if you can call it any of that) are not substantial enough. Get the 20D and take the balance saved and purchase good glass.
ok_not_ok: do you have a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM? How do you like it? I'm after it.
Engage: You payed way to much for a prosumer level digital camera. You could have had a wicked kit for that much. Or you could have purchased the equally fresh Panasonic DMC-LC1. Same camera with out the red Leica Badge.
Still a fresh bit of kit though.

I hate when I post then read and come across all my fumbling mistakes.
Crap.

good call dan! i have the 20d but i thought the full size frame chip on the 30d was suppossed to be the major upgrade...not sure as i haven't ever used it.i bought the tamron 28-200 lens (which is cheaper then the canon...but not as quality as i've been told) but it has been great for me. gives me a really wide range of shot options...which isn't usually good for a hardcore...but suits me perfect : )
not sure but i think i paid $450 for the lens...probably cheaper now since i've had the camera for just under a year.
i shoot with it almost every day. have noticed some spots on my images that must be on the chip...i heard that if you take it to canon they will clean it for free. does anyone know this to be true? i live right by the major canon headquarters and was thinking of bringing it in next week to get cleaned.

I would get the D200, but that's just me
