For the longest time, Nikon paired with Sony for it's sensor technology. That always turned me off—felt like Nikon wasn't stepping up to the plate like Canon.

Canon has been setting the benchmark for Digital SLR technology with the development of their DIGIC II processor and the refinement of a CMOS sensor.

I still not convinced that Canon's Processor+Sensor combination has been matched.

With that said, if you're going to look long and hard at Nikon, it better be the D200. Nikon has flexed it's muscles (not that the D70 is terrible, but it's my opinion is it's not really on a par with the 20D.)

I say look at the 20D. Forget the 30D. The advancements/improvements/update... (if you can call it any of that) are not substantial enough. Get the 20D and take the balance saved and purchase good glass.

ok_not_ok: do you have a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM? How do you like it? I'm after it.

Engage: You payed way to much for a prosumer level digital camera. You could have had a wicked kit for that much. Or you could have purchased the equally fresh Panasonic DMC-LC1. Same camera with out the red Leica Badge.

Still a fresh bit of kit though.
