//classic rock stations are 80% rush and queensryche and 20% creedence then?

if you're still suspicious about quotas consider this...if cbs didn't have to air a certain amount of local or canadian content for it's canadian broadcasts would Generic Fast Food Company #1 that has zippo stores in canada at all appreciate paying for canadian advertising?

50% tragically hip, 20% The Quess Who, 10% April Wine and 30% Steve Miller Band
- fooler0
what if every radio station in the south had to play 20% Country music?
- thinman0
if the Brits try and market their stuff to the American crowd, ala Oasis, ton of other rock and trip-hop groups etc. you can better Godamn believe the Canucks do
- ********0
well i guess you'd have to take alls their records away from then wouldn't you.

CanCon sounds like hand-holding protectionism, but it's not. It's an added element of natural selection: the crap still sinks to the bottom, and there's more room for the stuff that's good enough to get a following.
Frankly, I'd rather listen to crappy Canadian music than the overwhelming majority of popular Yank music.
And our film industry could use something like this in the theatres. South Korea has/had a 60% rule (the US has been fighting them and recently the Koreans buckled) and it produced an explosion of great Korean cinema, like Old Boy, 3 Iron, the Mr/Mrs Vengeance films, and on and on.

yeah canadian film needs something, i don't know if quota will nessesarily work...i heard a filmmaker is trying to set up a marketing / trailer thing with empire and some broadcasters to make sure more canadian trailers are seen, a BIG factor in getting people to watch a film

wtf!
S. Korean film!?!?
ha ha hahaha

Canadian Theatres need more Bruce Willis.

america's hat really brings the hits!
- mrdobolina0
so Im thinking this is only enforced on popular radio. You have to have 50's oldies and all that shit came from America.

again they have different licenses for different stations and shows...
still though, recognize this Canadian tune?
"put your head on my shoulder..."
