exactly. Last night I was looking at bare bones pc systems on tigerdirect.com
The thing I like about the pc is all the options you have. I bought a tv tuner card for $15 dollars off of pricewatch.com and slapped it in in 5 minutes and it had free software to digitally record and watch tv from my monitor...
$15!

well, looks like someone successfully installed xp on macintel.
so, tell him to buy new macintel.
- mrdobolina0
I could just imagine the problems that macintel machine is going to have running xp.
- tkmeister0
yeah,
but he can use it as an argument for his point. i wouldn't run xp on a macintel, unless there's full support.

dual-boot machines would be awesome if they worked well.

the way I see it, is that if an agency employs me, and I ask for a 2k mac, and I get it, I feel wanted. I'm going to work harder, produce better work, and generally be a happier guy.
If I asked for a beautifully design machine and then IT gave me a 300 quid Dell with a screen that wouldnt know red from pink, I'm thinking they don't appriciate, my art. I'll have to not do as much work, probabally take more sick days and generally be a grumpier person.
High maintainance maybe, but I don't sell my soul cheaply. It's not about the money, it's about showing me some love.

so basically, it is because you are childish then?

i see the potential how big dual boot machine will be.
especially if i wanna do 3D stuff. now, that's what i am talking about.

regarding IT costs, i've worked at 2 companies supporting both macs and pcs, and i spent 99% of my time fixing the pcs, and 1% on the macs. why? because the macs were being used by hardcore computer lovers that know how to maintain a machine, while the pcs were being used by the admin and execs with (comparatively) no knowledge of computers. from conversations i've had with others, this seems common elsewhere.
i firmly believe it is largely personal preference, however, one specific area where i think macs win out is in connecting external hardware. because apple makes both the OS and the hardware, getting external bits to play along nicely seems to be a little easier, or at least more predictable. my $.02.
what were we talking about again?

Damn! Can't believe how big this thread got! A few points:
1. I am delivering a rebuttle tomorrow to the tech team. Will include the phrase 'Cold Dead Hands' etc.
2. This happened because our Mac Tech dude quit and will not be replaced.
3. @ Mr Dobs - I am fully PC literate. I run 3x PCs at home, cos they are cheap. I don't attempt to produce multi-page brochures, huge f-off stand graphics, magazine adverts or other stuff at home. I like a mac to do that. I respect your point dude, i just feel like my team is getting short changed. If they give me a system that works as well as my mac, is as reliable as my mac, and does the business like my mac - then i won't have a leg to stand on. I will be gutted though :)
4. @ epill - Thanks dude, ur arguments have helped and I will be using some of them tomorrow.
5. @ all other who understand - cheers guys
6. Amazed this did not decend itno a MAc vs PC flamewar - result! I love the PVN
- mrdobolina0
everything has been said in mac versus pc and all it is is personal preference.

wheel in Derek2005 & Sean Getti, ambassadors for Apple.
They're get you those goddamn macs!
- -_MU_-0
Yeah, ur right. I still reckon the switch will make my life harder tho.
- kelpie0
good luck man, I hope you get to keep your Mac and use the hell out of it! fuck yeah!
- -_MU_-0
OK. I gotta go argue my point to the entire marketing team and the head of tech support in 30 mins time. I'll post back and let you guys know the outcome. Cheers!
