Hi guys
I just found out today that the design dept I work in that is furnished with lovely G5s will be switched to PC next week, cos of costs and shit.
I don't wanna start a mac/pc argument, thats been done to death, if you prefer PC then more power to you. I wanna ask the mac users out there: Are there any legitimate arguments I can use with my boss to stop this travesty from happening?

they look nicer than PCs?
- Bluejam0
no.

do they hire the G5's? Just trying to figure out how ditching a load of G5's and buying PC's is saving money... future software?

a bad workman always blames his unfashionable tools
- fuck you, cunt. losing work because of a crashing PC has nothing to do with how good of a "workman" you are.iCanHasQBN
- damn. this thread is 4 years old.iCanHasQBN

Your company would probably lose valuable and fashionable clients if they saw you didn't have shiny macs. This would more than offset any saving made by switching to PC. Perhaps.

No idea how you can work on a mac all day... they're painful...
although I do have a mac screen / wireless keyboard and mighty mouse (so I like those bits!)

Hey rasko,
Nah, we bought all this shit about a year ago, no joke! 3x workstations, Dual 2GHZ & 2.5GHz, full software suites, etc. I guess thay are gonna try and sell them off and get some cash back. I am trying to be open minded about this but I am screwing. FFS, my comapny distributes Mac Software - Adobe, Quark, Extensis etc. It sends the wrong message. I feel I deserve a mac, and by denying me one, it shows that they don't wanna give me the right tool for the job.

i was gutted when i had to leave my g5 at my last job to come and start working on pcs at this one.
it was a sharp learning curve and i still have no idea how to fix things when they go wrong on a pc, but in the end, a computer is a computer and once you learn how to hit the control button instead of the apple button, you'll be back up at top speeds in a month or so.
that's the one argument i can think of to present to your employer - you will definitely be a lot slower for a while while you get your bearings. otherwise, it's sixes.
i still prefer macs (because i never knew anything else until nine months ago) and i love my home powerbook perhaps more than is healthy, but it's not the end of the world.

I saw an article (can't remember where) which said that PC's cost twice as much to run than Macs.
It's a fact kids, like it or not.
Hit him with that one, it's just isn't cost effective to switch from Mac's to PC's, regardless of what he thinks.

Behave children... if... if I could only find it... I'd show you. Then you'd see :-P
- kelpie0
ok, well hurry cos your getting a chinese burn in about 3 minutes if you cant

Ok - I'd love to see it if it exists!
I have registered my distaste with the pointy haired boss. Have been told to prepair a written argument, and spec a PC wishlist as a backup.

I was asked what I wanted to work on when I started my new job. I said Mac and they said fine.. There is not a pc in the house, so I don't know what they would have done if I demanded a one...
- kelpie0
man, for what a g5 costs you could build a phenomenal PC, bear that in mind, it isn't all doom and gloom - I work on both, Mac at work and PC at home, macs feel nicer to use and you feel like a right cool bastard when the big fan starts going, but pc's are decent too if you can keep them clean...

It was something to do about the price of IT support for PC's being massively higher than that of Mac's... and... and... and...
*wets himself*
*goes red*
- kelpie0
that would make sense though wouldn't it...

Yeah, my mac tech support guy just confirmed it. When was the last time my mac crashed?
Er, I can't remember.
