Ahh, a hair dig. Didn't see that comin.
Hey what the hell. Sure! I'm also porking a tree and eating hummus right now. Feel better?

harlequino when did you find out that the swastika symbolizes more than Nazis? Recently? Sounds like you just found out and now you want to show everyone your new discovery. You do know that everyone already knows this right?
I agree with tehgee. Why would you leave up a swastika when you know a bunch of Jews were visiting? A bit insensitive to say the least.
So if I have a bunch of black people come by my place is it ok with you that I burn a cross?
Loser.
mrdobolina you are a bigot.
- _salisae_0
he didn't invite them over
- mrdobolina0
Ha, Im a bigot.
Do things you say actually mean anything? Or do you just troll around the internet all day talking shit?
How am I a bigot by saying that these jewish folks know the fucking swazi means more than just nazis and they can't get over it?

Actually Question, I've been aware of alternate meanings behind the symbol for over 20 years. For three reasons, namely having actually gone to history class, been a practicing Buddhist a large portion of my life, and having genuine interest in learning about other cultures. As someone involved in a creative field, I'm stunned you feel differently.
I'm also stunned you see this man's symbol of faith the same way as a burning cross, an icon which by definition is meant as a desecration and displayed out of hate and the intent to cause violence. An unusual view, but you're welcome to it.
You can call me a loser if you like, but I suspect if you were to spend more time interacting with another very different culture, you might feel differently.

i didnt say that at all, i was saying you MUST know taht some peopel are not going to know what it means to you and mistake it for somethign else and you need ot be sensitive to that

Question
(Jan 30 06, 08:28)so tolerance is just a matter of perspective? because jews might be offended (and are clearly ignorant), this person has to hide a culturally significant symbol?

I would feel uncomfortable having that on my door, but it's a part of the religion and therefore he can have that symbol if he wants to. It doesn't have bad implications or meaning behind it in the way that he is using it.

(Jan 30 06, 09:05)Swastik is fine if it's part of your religion, no problem from me. In fact, at my university it was used on top of a medical health building as a symbol of power and decoration. Much like a gargoyle.

I think this is all getting a little out of hand. I would tell the man this "You have a swastika on your door, I know this is a religious symbol of yours, and you are welcome to leave it up if you like. However, a lot of people might get the wrong idea, because a swastika also symbolizes the following (if you didn't know)."
Seriously, I wouldn't be suprised if his door gets vandalized.
Maybe this guy knows the double meaning and that he is haning the most divisive symbol of all time on his door, maybe he doesn't.
- mrdobolina0
should you be able to display a cross?
- mrdobolina0
just kidding ;)

Hey, it's history, it's the same as southern States having the Confederate flag in their State seals, flasg, etc. I'm not judging them. It is what it is.

i have swastika's all over the place. i keep telling everyone it is my newborn spirituality.
but they still don't accept..

don't you work in nyc?
i thought new yorkers are much more open to cultural differences...
but i have noticed how jewish people can be defensive and protective sometimes.

I work in Westchester, where affluence and feelings of self-entitlement run rampant.planet-
Yours is in the ballpark of a totally rational and reasonable response. Had somethin in that vein, or something along the lines of wanting to respectfully discuss it with the guy in the spirit of informing someone of the potential issue, been the outcome of what I overheard, I would never have had this reaction.
