mrdobolina do you think its better to bring money in the state or keep it poor?
- GouchoMarx0
I reckon you should make some new cities, you can have New Rome for the wops, New Dublin for the paddies, New Berlin for the krauts, New Madrid for the spics, New Orleans for the wogs and New Washington for the honkies, fuackin sorted innit? no cunt but those of the right denomination can enter another cunts city, and there can be a fixed area of fighting ground in between.

(Jan 17 06, 07:04)no KOna, I'm not crazy and it wasn't what I said - I don't know anything abou the place, if this is how you react to someone with a genuine wish to be informed then you are indeed being a dick.

one last thing before i go.
dobs. setting aside for one moment what race lived in what ward, the 9th ward was one of the worst hit. almost 100% of the homes completely destroyed beyond the ability to be rebuilt. so what else are you going to do.
now, some of the other areas weren't hit so bad, so you can bulldoze down the homes that can't be rebuilt, but rebuild the ones that can be saved.
plus, the insurance companies are fucking some people because they claim the flood damaged the homes, not the hurricane, so they are still on the fence as to fixing their home or not as they are still fighting with the insurance companies for money.
so in this case, stop seeing things as black and white and see them as to what can and cant' be done with the amount of damage caused in each place.
i can't imagine it even is safe biologically to keep up some of those places that are beyond repair. the amount of bacteria has to be off the charts.
everything with you is still about the man and big government trying to take control.

I have a black friend from Lafayette, 100 miles away. He said, that Hurricane Katrina, in a very strange way, was a blessing in disguise for some of those decrepted black neighborhoods. Tha ACLU, etc. would never let some of those housing projects and other ghetto areas to be dozed. In his opinion, it will be a renewal for many of those areas.

kelpie i'm sorry. no offense to you.
i just get so angry when we as a people can't take 1 step forward without taking two in the reverse direction. racism in all forms with all races spreads this ignorant thought amongst people that it' us vs. them, or them vs. us and mlk is rolling in his grave with nagin's comment. that goes against everything he stood for.
it's bs. i'd be calling just as much bullshit if the shoe was on the other foot and some white major was calling for a predominantly white city in a press conference.
friends?

The fever behind many of these responses speaks so much to how complex the issue of racism is.
Personally, I don't feel like we will progress with racial equality until we address our class problems. When I hear people talking about problems of race what I hear are really problems of class disparity in our country.

Hi. I wrote this string. I also lived in New Orleans for 6 years until Katrina made me relocate to Chicago to find work.
I don't have time to read every response. I have read a few of the comments backing Nagin's words.
This is all I have to say: New Orleans as well as Louisiana needs better people than Blanco and Nagin to lead the beautiful force that is NOLA into 2006 / 2007. I have separate issues with Bush and the feds, but the time has come to re-elect individuals in Louisiana who will stand for equality and push for the necessary goals of a rational American.
I apologize if I sound like a preacher, but the fact I had to evacuate and hear the bullshit that Blanco, Bush, and Nagin have to say, this is just another cry to all y'all.

(Jan 17 06, 07:25)same sh*t exists all over. France, South Africa, Australia, etc. It's not something that is isolated just in the USA.
- monkeyshine0
yes, it happens all over the world but I'm talking specifically about America.
We're the richest country in the world and yet we have staggering poverty tucked away in the shadows. I think Katrina shed a little light on this...how many people did you hear (especially outside of US) saying they were shocked to see such poverty in America?

(Jan 17 06, 07:44)shocked... hahaha depends on where you live and where you grew up. Appalachia, in our necks of the woods monkeyshine is even poorer and I'm talking about whities

Just because a country is rich doesn't mean it wont have poverty. Where did that expectation come from?

Where did that expectation come from?
Question
(Jan 17 06, 07:49)I think it came from a place called Utopia, which doesn't currently exist, except in people's heads.
