is that just what the inside of the intel chip plant looks like? seems too similar to be copied.

yeah, most of us here work in the ad industry. Is it ironic that AdBusters is my fav magazine?

too bad Iron & Wine is making the most cash of this song.

Rasko, you're right on man
buzz
buzz
buzzand there's no way this shot is coincidentally identical:

cleverly duping the public doesn't score as many points as making ads that connect the product to the consumer in a clever way.

one could aruge that it is hard to visual reflect the production process of chip making but the uncanny, resemblence in certain scenes begs to differ.
i think this nothing new, advertising is heavly influenced by the pop culture.
the difference from now and before is that we have information ready at our finger tips and able communicate this kind of fault to others in fast manner.
if there was no internet, most of us wouldnt know if this video existed.
funny enough, internet is keeping creatives to be more honest and orignal.

I don't see creativity here... just a rip. To be honest i don't watch the MTV so much, so i never saw the Postal Service vid before today, but had seen the apple ad. After downloading the PS vid and seeing the first few seconds i was shocked at use of the exact same shot and the same pacing.
I'm a huge apple junkie and i've enjoyed the quality of their ads over the years, but this is unacceptable. particularly after the luguz issue, apple should have taken extra steps to ensure that they didn't receive that kind of negative press again.
someone is alseep at the wheel in their ad dept.

it's hard for all us art directors/designers to look past the concepts, visuals and camera angles to see that this is very very savvy marketing

the famous apple ad "1984" is obvious reference to the book.
but they added that apple touch to it.
- rasko40
you are all mad, this is totally clever esoteric marketing that is as we speak in cell division across the web, probably lots of us wouldn't have seen either of these videos otherwise so its working both ways, to be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if both were created with a larger idea in mind, ie; both parties involved from the ground up.. now that is what you call clever but I guess you are all too concerned with creating the latest deer head or houndstooth pattern. Step back from your introverted designers desk and realise the wider angle.

But my question is *how* is it clever? MrDinky has a point... the 1984 spot was a referential, but at the same time it was a unique vision. I don't see any thing that is unique here.

I'd never even heard of Postal Service until this thread...

Sorry, maybe i'm being dim, but rasko are you saying that apple is ripping/borrowing/colaborating (what ever the case may be) in order to generate net buzz? that sounds a little off to me... that seems like it would be directed at too niche of a market... i would think that it would be more effective to a wider market to come up with a new concept... just imho
- ********0
Yeah, what Rasko said.
As if what is said on here has any importance anyway.

Because your talking abouit right now!
Wake up

I don't know if clever is really the word for it, but it's clearly a collaborative effort between the Postal Service and Apple to do something just a little bit off - get people like us (their core target market for high-powered computers) talking, questioning, debating... the similarities make it more memorable, and if you're not into the Postal Service and haven't seen the video, then it's a cool looking and intriguing (visually anyway) ad for Apple as always.
If you're a Postal Service or alt-rock fan, then the band looks a whole lot cooler when someone like Apple apparently 'rips' off their video.
It's all image and buzz, and as you can tell from the actual substance of the ad, there's very little about what exactly makes the Intel chip so much better.
- ********0
rasko is dead on.
the WHOLE entire point of advertising is to get people to learn about, talk about and eventually buy your product...look at how easily we are all falling in line.
does it upset you how effective their "unoriginal", "here they go again", "give me a break Apple" ad has been in getting you to talk about it and help spread the word? We've all helped advertise for Apple, at no additional cost to them.
Original - no
Genius - absolutelyDon't think for one second that this wasn't planned.

people have been talking about the Intel chips in Macs for like a year now?!? what's more to say?
