They both owe a greater debt to Lucas and Kubrick.

I think it's symptomatic of ad agency culture in America today; far too many people sleep-walking thru their job. Even if they have some explanation for it [hired the same director or something. I dunno], it's just so LAZY.

(Jan 12 06, 08:57)I concur. I see a ton of THX1138 on both. I also see the Bjork video Chris Cunnigham did. So, whatev...

there has to be something else going on here.
apple couldn't be that stupid and think that nobody would see the resemblance. ok exact copying.
- Mimio0
There's a sociological term for this..it's "simulcura" or something like that. Basically the idea is that things/aesthetics become part of a pseudo-language, and they become versed through their multiple copies from copies etc. basically until the original referrant is forgotten or consciously ignorable.

to think this is sloppy or stealthy plagiarism is naive, it's more referential and 'in the know'. Apple make the biggest selling mp3 player and sell millions of tracks through itunes, this 'biting' is intentional and creates buz among mtv weasles that think to gain respect from their spotty peers by posting it on their site and whinging on forums - more coverage, more word of mouth - job done.

doing a spot that already exists, says innovation?

mimio i think you mean Simulacra..
the notion that we are caught in a neverending chain of Simulation, and hyper reailty where the concept of orginality is rendered redundent..

Super lazy ad agency creative director style, that's all this is. No ideas, 'everything has been done' mentality.

"Oh brother, not again..."
is that in reference to the iTunes/Eminem/ Lugz thing or have there been other burns that i am unaware of... ?
- Demo0
Lugz reference

remember the old intel campaign with the spacesuit dancers?
they shouldve had those guys dancing with their ipods on or something
- Mimio0
That's it imakedesign, thanks.
I knew it was some kind of Baudrillard terminology.
- Mimio0
Atleast the orginal intel guys were some sort of conscious reinvention.

hasn't Intel been using that biohazard lab look for a decade now? I agree, was a easy concept that could have been out of laziness.

I think a lot of you are totally missing the cleverness of this, which is sad, as you apparently work in similar industries.
