Yeah, that picture, I think, is of a large Renault car dealership the poor, repressed souls burned to the ground last night. It provided about 250 jobs in that area.
Here's another little vingette that may be of interest to those on this site who empathize with what is going on here:
"In the northeast suburb of Sevran on Wednesday, youths doused a woman on crutches with flammable liquid and set her on fire with a burning rag as she struggled to get off a bus, a judicial official said, citing the bus driver's report to police. The driver, who had ordered passengers to leave the bus because flaming objects were blocking the road, helped the injured woman get off, the official said."

A good idea in theory moural, but there's one thing you're forgetting.
Widescale Corruption.
France (& the US if we must say it, even though this thread is on another subject, but the US get's pulled into it everytime) dumps plenty of money into Africa. I've seen it first hand in Cameroon and elsewhere.
Then again, you will find France still pillaging countries like Gabon for their oil and other natural resources, but that's another topic.

As you say, French machinations in Africa is a wholely different topic--one I could spend hours on--but suffice to say, Bongo and the rest of the waBenzi do a pretty good job of wrecking their homelands while enriching themselves and their families.

Touche, very true my friend. Two sides to it.
Not that Zimbabwe was ever French, but for example take a look at Robert Mugabe.
Most of French West Africa is in shambles for a number of reasons. And yes, their own indigenous leaders do a very good job at destroying a large part of the colonial infrastructure which doesn't help matters.
Of course no one ever wants to claim responsibilty.
Although, I do see a trend in African countries that were colonized by Belgium, France and Portugal. They seem more war prone and corruption persists more so than the British and German colonies. Maybe that's just a large-scale coincidence and a generalization, but it's hard for me to ignore.
Anyway, just my opinion buddy. The US screwed up Liberia a few times too.

That kinda puts a different spin on that incident. Something about the Drudge report that you linked to on unsubstantiated Associated Press reports makes me think that someone is trying really hard to charicaturise the rioters as a sadistic bunch setting disabled womenon fire.
That seems out of character. For what i've read, the mob violence is directed at property and authority (i.e. police) rather than disabled women.
