- observation changes the experiment...yurimon
- So... you're saying that science has begun to explain consciousness. I guess we're done.monospaced
- it hasn't explained anything there is no vehicle in how science works to explain it... copeash /endyurimon
- you better tell all those researchers before they waste their time. maybe email them all?scarabin
- there are researchers that waste their time history is filled with them. theories are wrong most are not scientific aw.yurimon
- lawyurimon
- thank goodness your towering intellect has graced the planet. you should put it to use and stop them all before it's too latescarabin
- in the meantime they'll continue making discoveries while your "holistic" religion continues to stagnatescarabin
- yurimon do like, I dunno, one single google search on this experiment and you'll learn somethinginteliboy
- dont be trollin..yurimon
- dont be trollin..yurimon
- second im not against science. i know its limitations...yurimon
- Uh. Science did discover this experiment. It is literally a scientific experiment. You're using to make the point.monospaced
- You say it explains how consciousness works at quantum level. That's your argument and science backing it up. We are done.monospaced
- I mean, you talk shit about science, but then use a fucking scientific experiment to back up your argument??? pleasemonospaced

You're forgetting that yurimon is a troll.

Actually it's a good quote
"When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad, and that is my religion."
- Abraham LincolnThread should have ended there.
- +1********
- he didnt feel bad when he threw the constitution out the window resulted in deathsyurimon
- I'm sure he did, but what he didn't do is pray to a ghost for forgiveness hoping he wouldn't burn in a made-up place for eternitymonospaced

Having never been around religion growing up, it just doesn't make any fucking sense. It seems like everything related to religion - church/mosques/etc and worship and prayer are just boring wastes if time.
And that's the main thing, who has time for any of this? Like seriously. I know a practicing Jew and it seems like his life is just chock full of religious-related activities and I have no idea how he makes space for any of it in his schedule. I'd rather be drinking with friends or watching TV but each to his own.
- Morning_star0
For what it's worth, which is probably very little. There is some current scientific thinking that posits that the brain is a receiver of consciousness, similar to a TV and thoughts/memories/ideas etc are the programmes watched on the TV.
It goes someway to explaining why it's been impossible so far to find a memory, yet it is quite easy to record the effects, via MRI, of the memory. The analogy being that you would find it entirely impossible to find 'True Detective' inside the components of your TV.
- See Rupert Sheldrake's work********
- you know his stuff?Morning_star
- this is a good point..thanks for this input.yurimon
- I've been reading/watching Sheldrake and Terrence McKenna stuff for years :-)********
- except you can watch the formation of a memory on a molecular scale on youtubescarabin
- Linky, linky?Morning_star
- http://sploid.gizmod…scarabin
- Thanks. But that shows the molecules that record the memories, not the memories.Morning_star
- that's like saying "that's just a groove on a record, not the song"scarabin
- It's not actually. You're saying you recorded the radio on the tape-deck so the music must be stored there.********
- See Rupert Sheldrake's work

Is there not a way to settle this argument? Can we not get all the world leaders in a courtroom with all the evidence for and against religion and come to a definitive conclusion on this?
- Evidence for religion?
lol******** - ExactlyWhiteFace
- they will tell you of countless evidence and tell you of that man where that thing happened and there will beESKEMA
- no point talking them out of it because they only listen to the lord.ESKEMA
- I like the argument... 'look at that rainbow.... how can there not be a god?'********
- You have nothing.********
- my dog took a fat shit, how could there not be a god!moldero
- religion by itself is a distortion of spiritual or deeper understanding in same way science could be when it politically corrupted..yurimon
- "deeper understanding" my ass. religion doesn't understand the universe, that's why it exists. at least science is trying. religion gave up thousands of years ago.scarabin
- gave up thousands of years ago.scarabin
- when you stop being existentialist twat bags maybe you will understand something ahaha!yurimon

Religion is the same sort of thing as when the dog is afraid of the hoover.

Religion =
- yurimon0
I think people who say religion is corrupt, false etc. the Same thing could be said for science, economics. You live in a corrupt system where, the practice of what makes you free economically, intellectually, physically, spiritually, is suppressed especially in practice. Try to practice real freedom and see how long before someone in authority puts a boot in you face.. to argue that scientism, religion, monetary police, political systems, etc, represents something pure, and not contrived for you to be put inline by someone who runs your reality is mute.
- point is you can be a slave in believing false scientific theory as much as religious person could be a slave in his/her belief systemyurimon
- once again, science is a method, not an institution. I don't know why you don't understand thismonospaced
- there's no leader, or dogma, it's just a process and everyone is working on figuring things outmonospaced
- sure, there might be a group using the method for corruption, but that doesn't mean the method is flawedmonospaced
- Religion, on the other hand, ONLY makes assumptions, and really only works toward falsitiesmonospaced
- "religion may be corrupt and false, but so is other stuff, so that makes it okay" -yurimonscarabin
- i didnt say it makes it ok. it means scientism has its limits and corruption. so becareful what you think is trueyurimon
- There are leaders and there is dogma in science.********
- Yeah, that dogma should be challenged. Those laws of physics and physical evidence are total bullshitmonospaced
- Only sith lords (idiots) deal in absolutes.********

Religion fundamentally takes away the power from yourself, from the people.
Needing to hope and pray to an external force for help and good fortune in your own life is nothing less than completely debilitating.
Lot's of good sentiments in religion, but nothing the average person doesn't already recognise as being good and bad behaviour.
Less of the external non existential power and more self empowerment.
- Loop the loop thread.********
- +1monospaced
- thats what it is and same thing with science to some extent. extreme existentialism is out of balance.yurimon

Jesus didn't like religion either.

As an agnostic, I think a great horror movie would be discovering that the Christian God, and all the drivvel that goes with it, is actually real.
Can you imagine? Think about it for a second.
On a personal level, try and get a sense for the upwelling of dread you'd suffer, the existential pointlessness of it all.
in the background - the increase in storms and chaos, the endtimes paranoia and all the other shit.
I don't imagine the film I have in my head would be all that popular with The Departed-loving crowd, but the idea's been on mind for a few years now.
Perhaps I should pull my thumb out and try writing it one day.
- *pulls thumb out of ass, sticks thumb in mouth, sucks*detritus

- That was basically the plot of this movie
http://www.imdb.com/…ukit2 - that movie was pretty funnymonospaced
