i wonder how this will shine through when it's been brought to the general audience via mass media. i have doubts.

i think jeff made a good point. it speaks to those who know what it stands for, but how many people in canada not to mention the world are going to understand what it means?

the one they picked is yucky. Submissions people have posted are quite nice, I espeically like xrtions.

for even better view.
I was never big on the idea behind this competition from the first place, but I would have thought with all those submissions they would have picked something better.
I enjoy the Swiss influence on xrtions. I like how it is all intergrated into the symbol and the text although I am curious has to how it would look with the colours of the rings etc.
The logo that has been picked to me is like 3 different things stacked ontop of eachother and dosn't even feel like one unified symbol. I agree the type sucks too.
I mean if they were gonna use a native symbol, why not use those other kind you find on totem poles, you know like you would find in BC, not inuit symbols.

that is a seriously retarded looking logo.

wtf were they thinking

if it wasnt smiling it would be alot better

I don't really like the execution of the finished logo, but it does represent the history and origins of Canada.
It's great that the world doesn't know the meaning, when the game comes they will be exposed to something truly Canadian.

Would be nice to see all the entries.
I think the emblem works better by itself. They could have done a better job incororating the olympic rings into it.

yeah greg / xrtion
i was wondering if this was going to mean anything rest of the world.
but as you know, olympic is about exporting culture to others so i think its appropriate. i knew the winner would have something to do with native indians and maybe orcas.. over i am not excited about it but it reflects what it supposed to.

the olympic ring guidelines say that you cant put the logo a within a certain distance (something like, half of 1 ring) from any design elements, so its really hard to make them fit together, they basicly want the rings to remain independant from the emblem

The london 2010 bid has the rings totally intergrated... but i guess its just a bid...

I wish I'd designed the winning logo too. But I'm not going to knock a good piece of work out of JEA.
I think the logo is nice. It stacks up against lots of past ones...

An inukshuk was an obvious choice. I've only been to Vancouver once and I couldn't help but notice how many were built around Stanley Park.
It represents a beacon for safe journey through travel.
As far as criticizing the fact that people who may or may not know what it means... consider that people around the world will find out once sportscasters from around the world mention the significance. And besides... It looks like a simplified human form. And that's enough of a significance for most people.
It's easy for kids to draw in their sketchpads while they sit in class dreaming about the olympics.
I imagine the mascots looking pretty funny. Walking around like a goofy stack of rocks.
To the designer. Nice work. Gimme a call... Let's have lunch.

that must be by far the most miserable logo for any big event i've seen in my life...
to me it looks like a primitive rockman, and i don't believe it represents canadians either... not unless they consider themselves primitive.. which is hard to believe.
It's sad the fact we're going backwards...
