If a million baby seals could fit under my sink then that would mean my kitchen would be HUGE and I would be filthy stinking rich..and in that case no I would build them a seal park in my backyard.

cows, chickens, pigs, fish = meat we can all eat and use
seals = small quantities of meat used in three countries, pelts for shoes and bags. Much of the meat is wasted.

---------------------I'm not talking about waste. I'm talking about the injustice of how the meat you eat is treated.
Those seals are free-range as far as I'm concerned. They've been happy swimming around and making out and having babies.
I'd rather you all spent your energies protesting intensive farming systems.

The fact remains that humans find seals cute and cuddlie looking, like a fish-puppies.
Hence, we feel some kind of emotional connection to them.
We don't give a f*ck about actual endangered species which we might find ugly or offensive in some way.

What species are you talking about? I'd wager that if there is an endangered species somewhere someone is trying to make it known.I think the case of these seals is particularly wasteful and callous. They're being harvest ed to create luxury items and wasted out of inconvenience. Much like those assholes who kill a elephant just for the ivory.

Hey danton - yep I know that. It had been put forward as a reason for previous culls though. It was then shown to be a false reason. That is why I said it is a mainly a commercial exercise

Mimio, I agree with some of what you said. It does seem wasteful and fruitless. I just find it interesting that we don't hear much about other species that are dying off. Do we care about some jungle beetle that can only be found in the depths of the Amazon?
