Aww dear, now I just have to rant.
So all this attention to the seals is because you're all animal lovers is it??
"post it again and i shove this sharpie up your butt"
Very loving toward your fellow man I must say.
Also culling is essential to the health and long term stability of any animal which has numbers that are no longer regulated sufficiently by nature.
I'm with moth on this one if you eat processed chicken you have no right to get uppity about the seals.
Would you all be screaming if we decided to cull rats? No sir you would not.
Don't get me wrong it MUST BE DONE HUMANELY!!
But to condemn culling per se and deem it as being "cruel" and what have you is downright ignorant.
I bet the vast majority of you that are mouthing off abnout this eat meat yet have never prepared a chicken from living animal to roast. You buy your shrink wrapped meat in the supermarket where it is convieniently detatched from being an animal.
Get a grip.

Bottom line...there is no real reason for this hunt other then giving poor fisherman something to do for a month.

(Mar 31 05, 06:58)How about READING as well as SPOUTING?????

emecks - I studied ecology during my masters. I know the basis of conservation thinking.
this is a commercial exercise not a conservation one

emerecks...I would implore you to read as well. There were an estimated 80 million seals when settlers first landed in that area. Now there are 5 million as reported by Canadian gov. even though they have done extensive research as to more exact numbers. Other researchers claim that there are closer to 2 million.
So you are telling me that for the sake of the seals their population cannot exceed 8% of their original number?
And I told Fawn she was getting the sharpie up her ass because
1) shes being annoying posting the same shit over and over.
2) she likes it.

correction:
even though they have NOT done extensive research as to more exact numbers.

Here here emecks.
Your meat is as good as tortured.
Swallow that.
At least these seals had the chance to roam free - like the fox that everyones getting upset about.
But yeah - doing it humanely would be nice.

2 million seals is more than enough for a healthy population.

the only logical conclusion from this episode of moral outrage is that the media is a damn fine shepherd.

---------------------------peter singer the "controversial" bio-ethicist said of protesting about the seal slaughter while continuing to eat meat "is like denouncing apartheid in South Africa while asking your neighbours not to sell their houses to blacks."
swallow that :)

determined -
cows, chickens, pigs, fish = meat we can all eat and use
seals = small quantities of meat used in three countries, pelts for shoes and bags. Much of the meat is wasted.
Slight difference.
Jevad saying that we dont kill cows for shoes was dead on. We use almost every part of a cow...but seals on the other hand are virtually only used for shoes and bags.
