opiate - How is it that I'm sheltered?
I believe that being a follower of Christ actually liberates me and enlightens me from things that those without Christ are enslaved and in bondage to. There is a joy in my heart that only a relationship with a living savior can provide. :)

Kuz, to further treat some of your objections...
There have been numerous series on the TV networks that attempt to discredit the Biblical record. Usually they just rehash tired arguments which have already been put to rest. The problem with suggesting that the Genesis record borrowed from earlier myths is quite simply, ignorance. Even a brief study of the manuscript/codex material we have demonstrates that the Biblical account was recorded prior to the pagan accounts. Furthermore, the fact that world religions have an account of a worldwide deluge supports that fact that it actually happened (not to mention the geological evidence that abounds). Additionally, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, do a study of the science of Textual Criticism. It will help you understand when and how the manuscripts that comprise the canon of scripture, came to be and how astoundingly consistent they are. This was one of the things that solidified my faith.
Keep in mind that secular universities will always suggest a non-supernatural basis for the evidence of the world-wide deluge. What I would suggest is that we are seeing more and more archaeological evidence to support the Biblical account. Don't believe everything university professors teach you.

discipler, i'm back. I have not had a chance to read ALL of the links that you gave me, though I have read some, plus further link research.
Here is a question, how do YOU an appearently well educated individual, feel about Pluralism?
i.e. existance of several truths at the same time
- puck0
Also, BTw, it does seem that you are frcing the scientific method on an existing narrative text.
- discipler0
danthon - it goes back to understanding the Hebrew terms that we translate "creeping things". As for insects, I believe they would have survived on floating vegitation and carcasses and the like.
- discipler0
hey puck, pluralism... man, in some ways it would be nice to embrace it, honestly. Part of me likes the idea that everyone can have their own personal truth and everyone's truth is equally valid. That being said... I don't buy it. I'm a proponent of objective and absolute truth. That truth, by definition, is exclusive. It requires that there exists falsehood.
Specific to Christianity, I believe that Christ is the only way to God because he is the only one who dealt with mankind's sin "disease". He said himself, "I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father, but by me." - John 14:6. So, I don't believe it can accurately be said that Christ is "one of many ways".

god is dead
- discipler0
Is that not tenable, Beach Boy? With the thousands of carcasses and debris to feed and live off of? Please tell me what the specific objection(s) to that would be. Keep in mind that, from a Creationist standpoint at least, not all insects around today would necessarily have been present on the earth at that time.

the god is dead argument is dead. :)
...and so 1960's.

discipler:
Much like you would like to believe in Pluralism, I would, and do accept most of the truths that the Bible presents, until it comes to ideas like John 14:6. That, for me, just does not fit at all.
When I read the scripture, then come across such quotes, I don't see Jesus, my understanding of Jesus, saying that. I see a monk in a dark room with King James or Constantine standing over him saying " you better figure out a way to place all things outside of this religion"
- discipler0
puck, there might be validity to that argument if it were not for 120 + manuscripts that all shared the words of John 14:6, penned centuries before the Kind James and the numerous other translations would ever come into being.
We have archaeological and historical evidence that suggests we can darn well rely on the 4 gospel accounts in the NT canon. :)

discipler - my comment was in relation to the fact that you believe, even to that level of detail in the good book
anyway, i'm with fawn - long live the king

Any book the claims the earth rests upon pillars, homosapiens are less than 6000 years old, and that light can impregate a woman shouldn't be held up as a scientific text.
End of story.

Mimio, what book says those things and where?
