Kuz, to further treat some of your objections...

There have been numerous series on the TV networks that attempt to discredit the Biblical record. Usually they just rehash tired arguments which have already been put to rest. The problem with suggesting that the Genesis record borrowed from earlier myths is quite simply, ignorance. Even a brief study of the manuscript/codex material we have demonstrates that the Biblical account was recorded prior to the pagan accounts. Furthermore, the fact that world religions have an account of a worldwide deluge supports that fact that it actually happened (not to mention the geological evidence that abounds). Additionally, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, do a study of the science of Textual Criticism. It will help you understand when and how the manuscripts that comprise the canon of scripture, came to be and how astoundingly consistent they are. This was one of the things that solidified my faith.

Keep in mind that secular universities will always suggest a non-supernatural basis for the evidence of the world-wide deluge. What I would suggest is that we are seeing more and more archaeological evidence to support the Biblical account. Don't believe everything university professors teach you.
