is the new canon eos 20D all that?
i still havent decided what to get...as soon as I get one they will prolly come out with a 12MP digital SLR dammit....

this could easily become a mac vs. pc thread.
i got the 300D in feb, and now there's the 20D, and the 1Ds
[get a canon]
but the progression is happening quick... i'm holding out for a good 11 or 16, for less than the price of a car.

I have the 10D and love it like crazy.

I was set to buy the 20D, but in a weird twist of event, ended up with the D70. Im very, very happy with it, It beats the 20D in many areas. ex: for studio work due to faster flash sinc, has a better chip, feels a lot better in the hand, got better continuous shooting mode.. And the most important: the kit lens is a very sharp lens, unlike the kits on Canon.
That said.. Unless nikon comes out with something mindblowing in the next year, I'll probably go with the Canon 1Ds next.

I have eos-300d but want a 20d so bad. After christmas it shall be mine.
I have to say i prefer the canon mainly becaus ethe lenses. You can use most of the old autofucus canon lenses as well as the brand new ones. Means there is heaps of quality glass around on ebay.
plus the usm is lenses focus so fast... wicked if your into sports photography.

oh yeah and the nikons use sony ccd boards so consider buying a sony camera?
- jevad0
thanks all
- slappy0
as long as you get a slr thats the main thing...
they kick ass over compacts, no shutter lag, fast lenses, good battery life etc. no matter which cam you buy youll get good pix assuming you know how to use it ;)
- meok0
the sony CCD chip is considered to be superior in term of image quality output than all current CMOS chips (which Canon uses) But this might not last forever.

in conclusion, you'll be happy with either companies.

"Chimping is a term used by pro sports shooters ( See video at http://www.sportsshooters.com ) that refers to elbowing the shooter next to you to show him your great pic. They say this is often accompanied by noises usually made by a monkey. Now anytime one is caught checking his or her work it is referd to as chimping."

with 6 MP you already has some pixel in reserve. milliions of pixel is not the whole thing. I've got the D70 and I'm more than pleased with it. I would advice it against the 300d maybe even against the 20d. If you want to spend all the end of the year (night and day) debating that subject (nikon vs canon) go http://www.dpreview.com

can't believe this discussion is still going on.
I've seen great pictures taken with virtually every brand available.
...and I'm happy with my canon

I just sold my Canon D30 (3.3MP dslr) with a precise plan to buy a 10D or, if the money allows, 20D.
Then I started reading about pentax *idtDS. It has the same sensor Nikon D70 uses. It's small, the smallest dslr available. The most important thing is it accepts all pentax lenses since about 1975. There are tons of these, cheap and of excellent quality. Yes, you can pick up an old Russian or East-German manual lens with pentax mount for $15 and use it with your dslr. There's more: you get focus lock confirmation while focusing with these lenses. And with most of these, the camera can meter light.
Pentax's viewfinder is much bigger than Canon's and Nikon's, almost like in 'real' slr. To tell the truth, I hardly ever used MF with my Canon dslr because the viewfinder was too small to judge sharpness.

Wifey just got the Mark II... slaps everything off the table. Great speed! Works so well even in super low light conditions.

MK II.. OK, that wraps it up.
