In the effort of consructive criticism, you nedd to go learn to design. The technical skill is there, but there seems to be quite a lacking in actual formal skills, by this I mean composition and such... Do ike all the other people said, just go look at design now. And do a lot of drawing...
- IRNlun60
its obviuos you have technical skills, but you really need to take an internship to not only build your resume but to improve upon the skills you have. Sucks to be broke, but experience in the industry maybe what you need.
good luck.

I dunno if it sucks. I have seen worse. But ugh! The colors... The music is annoying. It is altogether pretty uninteresting.
I would have to say look at some other reels... Make a new one and keep trying. You can do it :)

dont look at fuel design, they are a bunch of bitches.....

WOW!!.
I'm totally shocked by all of your comments.
I sincerely appreciate everyone who gave me comment and I seriously took them and I will try to work on it.
Yeah! I have to addmit that I need design sense. Well, that's the hard part. "easy to say, hard to do"
OK, now I'd like to take this further.
- jamesk6170
everyone's right.
I respect every single comment, but I did not intend to make porns.
- jamesk6170
yes, James is my american name.
I graduated from art institute of seattle in video production.

i agree with most of the comments here i'm afraid. i don't think people were specific enough, telling you something sucks is not really going to help you much.
first things first, lose that soundtrack. it's a mistake graduates are prone to making, but having cheesy positive words like "life", "irresistable", "fierce and challenging" whilst the soundtrack is banging out tired techno with "amazing" in the voiceover is going to make any creative director roll around laughing.
try to be more subtle - as someone pointed out, you clearly have technical skill. Have you considered teaming up with someone more creatively refined? Anyone from your college that you can collaborate with?
- jamesk6170
thanks so much vespa.
finally, start hearing what I need to do.
Thanks a million!!
Now..another question. do you think I should go back to school to gain more design skills? definately should be better than the one I graduated from.
like,,where? cal art? art center?
I might as well get BA though.
- pepe0
man if you can afford to go back to school esp like art center or calarts do it...
- jamesk6170
yeah, that's true.
can I really afford it? ummm...
I've got to be realistic..
what's is really wrong with me?
dude...
I want to be sattled.
- jamesk6170
thanks pepe.
Hey, I checked your work and I think what I need is what you have.
Plz share with me. you could be my bro.
- dstlb0
What course did you graduate from? Just interested cos it looks like you learnt some good basic technical skills but nothing about design and aesthetics. If it's an option I reckon you should be looking to do a design focussed course to build on the technical skills you have.
That reel is nasty, don't waste your time sending it out to anyone else. And when you've got something good to show don't send it out under the same name if you're going to try again with the same 100 companies, new web address and email are a must or they'll just remember what you sent first time and not bother looking at it.
Good luck, hope you turn things round.
- jamesk6170
all right, I won't send my dated reel anymore.
you guys are all right. I have no doubt about all the comments.
OK, now for people like me. what do you think it's the best thing to do? do you think I should just back up and learn design being unemployed for another 3 months?
everyone went through Jr/entry level and that's what I've been looking for.
do you really think I'm not even close to that?
I've already lost everything, so give me louder yale.
- aydee0
fella, you have the skils! You just need some direction. You can't really teach yourself design in 3 months, you just need to practice!!! Check these guys out....

Yep, it'll take a lot longer than 3 months to 'learn' design, but what you can do is check out the competition and compare their work to yours, see why yours doesn't look as good and take some inspiration from that.
When I say competition I don't mean other people in your position, I mean the top motion graphics companies. There's been a ton of great links in this thread, check em out and aim for that quality of work.
- jamesk6170
yeah! I know and been checking out those links through the night. I didn't even sleep at all.
the problem is that it's hard to jump up in skillwise.
as you know, I'm stock with my skills which is definately not good enough.
tutorials are kind of limitted for skills.
I really need help. there's certain things that I can't teach myself.
CRYING :-(
- kbags0
If I may say so, you're being tough on yourself. This is a good thing, but it can work against you. Whilst checking out 'the competition', don't get hung up on the fact that there's some insane shit out there. Remember, in design, there will always be someone better than you.
As for school, probably a waste of time unless you seriously can't find any work...real world experience is a better education for the most part.
As for design, this recanned from what everyone has already said, but what makes your real fall below its potential is the choice of color, type, and music. And lose the word "Fanatical"...that sounds kinda terroristic.
You're on the right track, and if you can take constructive and destructive criticism as well as you have been doing so far, you'll be just fine. Just keep your chin up and get cranking on a new reel, kid! Best of luck, amigo.

one thing I noticed about all the reals linked in this thread is, while they are proffessionally at the top of thier game, they are all also starting to look a lot alike . . . You may spend the next year or two improving your skills and acheiving the same level and realize that your are just one of many doing the same thing. My suggestion is to keep in mind that creativity and originality should be your main focus . . . .
