Yep, it'll take a lot longer than 3 months to 'learn' design, but what you can do is check out the competition and compare their work to yours, see why yours doesn't look as good and take some inspiration from that.
When I say competition I don't mean other people in your position, I mean the top motion graphics companies. There's been a ton of great links in this thread, check em out and aim for that quality of work.
