why would they be visible?

well, the forms of punishment he underwent would hav led to this. Specifically, the cat-of-nine-tails that he was whipped with contained jagged rock and glass on the tips. It would wrap around and release - tearing huge chunks of flesh away.

I grew up in a bigtime strict Protestant church. Their teachings were overall good, however, they strayed a little from what I think was correct, for their own agenda.

Well said, Phatty. I can totally understand that. I try to keep in mind that a great chunk of organized Christianity are not truly representing true biblical Christianity (IMO).
"Many will say to me, Lord Lord... and I will say, 'depart from me, I never knew you.'"
- Matthew Ch. 7

what does that quote mean to you froww ?

Matthew Ch. 7
Is part of the all great religions self-dividing perpetuated nature. Like Islam, Chrisitianity restores it's radicality by forcing the other. Each denomination or splinter group claims the "truth" over the more established denominations giving the followers something to feel apart of. Let's face it, Christian's sado-masochistic nature makes them feel more intune with thier beliefs if they're being persecuted for their faith.

The passage talks about how many will claim to be followers of Jesus because they do this, that and the other and appear religious... but, they have never truly placed their faith in the person of Jesus. They have a "form of Godliness, but their hearts are far from me."
The key word in what I quoted is "know".
Mimio - evangelical denominations only differ on non-essential issues of personal conviction. We share the essential "truth" and therefore, we have fellowship. The Bible speaks clearly on differing on non-essentials - it is ok. Someone has misinformed you.
- Mimio0
Interesting retort but the religious strata already exists and supports my observation. Lutherans, Catholics, Baptists etc... all hold doctrinal differences separating thier particular faith as "truth" and the only way to "redemption".
"There is no salvation outside the church"
Sorry, but I believe you're mistaken about the predominate Christian religions and their specific beliefs.
- froww0
The true church is people - not a building with a steeple. The church is made up of true believers in every denomination all over the globe. It's not about the denomination you're a part of, it's about who you "know". When I received Christ I chose to attend a Baptist Fellowship. Yet, I could still have fellowship with my Lutheran, presbyterian, pentecostal brothers and sisters down the street. Why? They are part of the church - true followers of Jesus Christ. The church is the collective body of believers everywhere. But, it is those who have truly, personally believed.

what is your churches view on people who dont share your view, people who practice other religions etc.?
- mrdobolina0
I guess I am a little too wrapped up in reality, but everytime I hear someone talking about 'him', I think they are a kook or a crackpot. Sorry Froww.
- Mimio0
Frow, that's all well and good but most denominations (Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Anglicans, Pentecostals, SDEs, JWs, Mormons [i.e. the vast majority of Christians]) all hold to the idea that the other groups don't posess "The Truth" and aren't True Christians.
- froww0
I understand. Jesus said the world would see his followers as kooks and crackpots.
I believe that anyone who does not have their faith in Christ alone, is lost. Jesus said...
"I am the way, the truth and the life and no comes to the Father, but by me." - John 14:6
- lowimpakt0
so if were lost does that mean we are not recognised by God? What if I have genuine faith in Christ but my actions are not 'christian-like'?
- loudubs0
nah, that's just nuts.......
sorry, but it's too easy to assume that anyone who challenges your beliefs has been "foretold"...that negates any reality outside yr skull. continue your quest, frowww, Faith in Knowledge and the Meaninglessness of it all
peace
- JazX0
I like to consider those that believe in Christ as 'believers'.
- lowimpakt0
those were slightly loaded questions
that system of faith as a validation of personal action is responsible for a lot of what is wrong in the world - do you not think?
- loudubs0
the question is, why is so bad to consider that, upon death, anything that you can possibly imagine with your current perception will cease to be? why do we need a Second Death or a Resurrection....nature already takes care of this.
