Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Anglicans, Pentecostals, all agree on the essentials - they all acknowledge this.
JW's & LDS deviate from the essentials and believe in a works-based salvation, like world religions. They are viewed as pseudo-christian cults and as lost.
I think it boils down to individual faith and finding a fellowship that teaches the word in truth. Again, i enjoy fellowship with plenty of other Christ followers from other denominations. By the way, there was denominational devision in the bible - see 1 & 2 Corinthians.

lowimpakt - true biblical faith in what Christ did changes the heart and therefore, produces a changed life.

and ultimately, you all must realize, it's nearly impossible to argue the point of religion with a born-again(dead again?) mind. scripture will be quoted and quoted and quoted.......no logical evolution......
"nothing new under the sun"

BTW, froww does EXCELLENT work. I remember his site. :)

It must be nice to have all the answers... A kind of blissful haze...
I'm a little too humble, I guess. I can't imagine claiming to know God. Much less knowing the secret phrase that will get me into "heaven", regardless of how I behave on this planet.
it must be nice to know that you know the "truth"... and that you will have eternal life when billions of non-believers will burn in hell...

Oh, there's tons I don't know. I just know that I'm forgiven and that the same forgiveness is open and available to everyone who would receive it.
I guess that's the one thing I know for sure.

forgiveness implies that you've done something wrong. doing something wrong implies that somebody is doing something right. in setting up this dichotomy, you've taken sides. Who is your enemy?

so... because I (and billions of others) haven't said the secret phrase... We're not forgiven? We'll go to hell?

I'm goin' to Mars forget about hell

an expedition to Mars is the moral equivalent of hell

We are born with a fallen nature. The Bible calls this "sin". We are born physically alive, but spiritually dead. This is why Jesus said to a very religious person, "you must be born again". - John Ch. 3.
I need forgiveness.

THE END

No secret phrase. :-) Just something like...
"Jesus, I recognize that you provided a sacrifice that I couldn't. I believe in what you did for me. Save me."
That's what I said in December of 92'... things haven't been the same since.
- Dr_Jay0
obviously not a secret... but it still is amazing that you believe that you can say those words and you're "saved"... and billions of others will go to hell because they didn't join your club...
seems arrogant to me.

It's not any majic words - it's the position of the heart. Either I am trusting in Christ and his finished work alone, or I am not. :-) I don't think it's arrogant, it's just that Christ is the only one who dealt with sin once and for all at the cross. Muhammed did not do this, the Buddha did not do this, Joseph Smith did not do this. Again, it's the unique sacrifice of Christ that sets him apart from the others. If I go to the grave of any of those I mentioned, I'm forced to say, "here he lies". In contrast, if I go to the grave of Jesus, I'm forced to say, "where is he?".
I follow a radical, risen savior... not a dead prophet.

some would argue that jesus actually sacrificed himself, more like was murdered.
