Exactly Dr_Jay,
It's the epitome of pretense.

it's not about saying the words. anyone could say them, it is about meaning the words and believing them.

I meant amen to froww.
It's really worth finding out about Jesus. Who he is and how he is still affecting peoples lives now.
Its not arrogance, it's his love for you that he gave you free will to search for him

i meet people all the time who dedicate their lives to helping others and actually make a change to the world without the vagueness of prayer, many of them dont go to church and dont seek praise or make stupidly wasteful movies so will they go to heaven or are they lost.

The very thought that there could be one way to salvation is very alien to todays pluralistic society.
That could be seen as arrogance as well. we have so much faith in science and our own minds that surely we must be smarter than than a God that may exist.
Through my relationship with Jesus, I believe there is one God, as distasteful as that is to many.

The prophet Isaiah said of his most righteous deeds, they are "like filthy rags". God's standard is perfection. None of us meet that standard. Jesus did. And he took what we should have gotten. When i looked to him in faith - forgiveness of sin was appropriated to me once for all time.
I can do lots of nice, charitable things, but it does not change the condition I was born into.

maybe if people werent so self centred and focussed on self-salvation in the distance of the future the world would be a better place.

With tears in her eyes, one woman exiting the Plano theater said, "Even more difficult for me were the scenes between Mary, the mother, and Jesus. Being a mother myself, those just tore my heart out thinking what that must have been like."

low, you might as well not even continue with your line of logic...it's falling on Stepford sized ears

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."
"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge."
