The passage talks about how many will claim to be followers of Jesus because they do this, that and the other and appear religious... but, they have never truly placed their faith in the person of Jesus. They have a "form of Godliness, but their hearts are far from me."
The key word in what I quoted is "know".
Mimio - evangelical denominations only differ on non-essential issues of personal conviction. We share the essential "truth" and therefore, we have fellowship. The Bible speaks clearly on differing on non-essentials - it is ok. Someone has misinformed you.
