creative is key here. learning a bit of flash, getting a client, and ripping a 3 year old style does not make you a 'creative professional', by any means.

*waives fist in circular motion
Wooo wooo wooo woooi guess the sad truth is that it's easier to tear something down than build it up.
well, there goes another nt member that shared something with us.

he took the cornerstone out of the building himself:
"...what would you have charged for this site? just wondering and then i'll tell if you if i got raped or not."
*then you look at site*
and think, wait, what? raped? for that? and its "...totally complete ..." ???
hell yes, i am going to rip into him.especially for COMPLAINING about 3g's. it owuld have been diff if he was like, 'well, all in all i made 3g's. can't complain cause it ain't done, but they got what they wanted.'
i would have left this thread alone. it was the complete lack of responsibility that killed it for me.
anyway, whats for dinner? im starving.

$1500 (only because it's full of free components, no real AS development).
The Boz has spoken. :)

btw - i love you all. i think this community is great. i know my owrk sucks and i look for no reward or praise towards what i do. i just get frustrated when i hear wanna-be's bitchin' over work that would have rightly fed any one of us AND any one of us could have done it 20 times better or known someone else who could, outsource it and still get paid. :)
*bows humbly* exscuse my temper for the moment. i bid you all good evening.
peace out. :P

Some fair points,
I don't think that design has ever really changed. I think in the 1950's if you wanted say, a sign made you could go to a professional, or you could get joe's kid to whip it up.
As people are generally cheap, joes kid got quite a few gigs, and made a little dosh on the side. Big deal. Now there is a flux of new young web/print developers out there who get work, and make small amounts of cash for themselves, but serious clients still go to serious designers for serious projects.
Nothing has really changed, I have lost a few gigs to the younger less "edumacated" kids out there, once again big deal. I am not going hungry, and occaisionally the client returns hat in hand, asking for the original quote...(yeh, good luck)
So if some kid comes in here asking questions on how to improve his skill set, or for advice, I think we should offer it to him, not chastise him, or tell him he is the problem with design today, he is not. The problem is eternal, and we are not solving it here today.
I don't think I would have even bid on that job originally posted, it's not stealing anything from us, whatsoever. Yeah he got lucky making $3000 off it, and they couldn't have afforded to go anyplace else, move on, one year $270 a month, BIG DEAL

This thread is amusing, to say the least.
At least he got a few reasonable answers in the beginning...

I still stand by my "you can't spell 'design' right on your portfolio site" comment'.

yo i wish this site had video conferencing or something so you could look me in the face and try to same some of the rude things you try to say. you guys aint bad, your stuff is not the best, i don't look up to you at all. fyi i am still working for the client, the site is not launched yet, he uses it to get more people on board (venues, sponsors). i used a scrolling component and preloader, both of which i could have done by myself but i thought for the money i was getting it was not worth going overboard with the site. i posted a comment to see what others would charge and how they felt about the site. you guys came back with some old wack shit, unbelievable. i swear man if some of you were only sitting right next to me. umm. i would f you for your stupidy and going on and on. wtf. on yeah i'm still going to post new work i do and i hope to talk with some of you guys again someday. for now peace out :)
