kelpie, I honestly do not care for my own birthday. But I don't mind hanging out with other people during theirs. I'm not into most celebrations, actually. Just don't like the socializing sometimes. I guess QBN is different because you don't have to reveal as much of yourself.

incidentally Frisk, what was your one word review of the life and work of Caravaggio? I had cause to see him on tele last night and hadn't thought about him in ages but just seeing those paintings on screen reaffirmed him as my favourite of the old masters...

Ok, honestly i think that Caravaggio is one of the greatest. The only thing that diminished his greatness to me it is that he used kinda all the same human models for his paintings. In the same pose with the same light treatment. You just realize that when you see several paintings together (which, especially with Caravaggio), doesn't happen often.
And, here is the big difference, you don't see this on Michelangelo and Leonardo paintings. They invent, Caravaggio "Just" copy.
That made it step down from "Absolute genius" to "great artist who know his trade but is more human". Nonetheless I still think he is great.
And his murderous face was on the most beautiful banknote design of all time. The History is quite ironic if allows a renown murderer to have such kind of glory.

I disagree on the invent/copy thing, very much. Caravaggio sparked a thousand Baroque copyists, no one did dark, evil, bloody suffering like him. I think this is where we will disagree on his lighting and subject style. In my opinion without him you have none of the great spanish painters, the flemish and dutch would have been fundamentally different too
